New ATI Card - Issues

EDIT: Confirmed not to be graphical corruption

I just recently purchased an ATI X850XTPE (the Visiontek Monarch $311 deal). Well, upon installing it, I have discovered what appears to be serious graphical corruption when installing the drivers.

Beyond that, the power connector on the card itself physically is bent out of place. What I mean is that it tilted at an angle rather than flat on the card. I don't know if this is a serious problem or not.

Finally, my screen occasionally flickers black, usually when trying to deal with the drivers or DirectX. Is the screen supposed to flash black when doing that, or does this indicate a problem?
I don't want to send off my rebate if I need to replace a faulty card...

Thanks.

Thanks.

My ATI card flashes the screen when in the DirectX control panel, probably because of refresh rate overrides, etc, and I know my card wasn't faulty.

But there are other issues with your card, so RMA it.

Well there's the graphical corruption when installing the drivers, but I ONLY notice the corruption on this screen.

The bent power connector I can't tell whether is necessarily a bad thing or not. The videocard is brand new (or should be, though the box was damaged when I received it).

You mean you have a dual monitor setup? Well I'm not sure, but I'd still RMA it if I were you. Those do not sound like software issues (especially the box being damaged).

Well what I meant is the only graphical corruption I've noticed is from the screen you see while installing ATI drivers.

I get them too, and I used to get them with my 9700Pro. It's normal. 🙂

I always saw that any time I installed an ATI driver. I think it's either a flaw on the picture or the driver itself does something during installation that causes the picture to appear like this.

It's normal for the ATI drivers screen to look weird - it's only if you notice corruption after you reboot with the drivers in there that there's a problem.

Regarding D3D/OpenGL, I assume you mean that when you open a game, the screen goes black for a second or two and possibly makes a clicking sound. That is normal - it's your screen changing resolution.

If you're describing something else, like the screen cutting out in the middle of a game, THEN there is a big problem.

From what you're describing, it sounds like it's perfectly normal; the only thing that sounds bizarre is that you say your molex plug is bent outwards a bit (if so, this means that you were not the first owner of the card and someone bent it out of shape).

Oh, you mean that dithered setup image? LOL, my bad. 100% normal. Please do not confuse this with graphical corruption, it's 100% different.

normal. i didnt notice those lines till now thoughg when i'm currently installing catalyst 5.10s. 9800pro flashed to xp noconfirmed no problems. in Direct X, flashing black is normal. resfresh rate changes , resolutino changes or overclocking clockspeed changes(sometimes, depending on card) will do this.

Bad news:
I think it is definately broke! Sorry man!

Good news:
I will buy it off you for $100. I need a new keychain!

LMK!

Well usually the screen flashes black at random times, not when I'm consciously changing refresh rate. Like after restarting my computer it will usually flash once. Also, SOME times but not EVERY time I run 3DMark05/03 and when I run dxdiag. Never in games.

I am just making sure that this is normal for it to do so seemingly at random, albeit it never while actually benchmarking or when in games.

And the molex plug IS bent out. I bought this card as a *NEW* product though. Should I be concerned?

And finally about Visiontek, they were bought out by another company (or what was left of their stock) who rebranded themself as the same name. There is a NEW Visiontek. I believe that is who manufactured my card.

My screen flashes at those moments too, I think it has something to do with the Vsync/AA/AF settings being applied but Im not sure.

Well I don't need to worry about anythign other than the bent molex connector. I'll try to get a digital camera in the next day or so. What are your opinions?

Same here. I noticed that I don't have the lines when I install drivers and the TV out is active.

Not very good images, but I didn't have to time to take the card actually out of my case. Can you see what I'm saying?

I should note that the Seasonic S12 power connectors will not connect to the card, so I'm instead using the included splitter without using the "extra" end. The shape was wrong.

haha, that isn't bent! shhesh, I'm willing to bet my right Te$ticle that you worry about dying when you go out and drive in the rain. Anyhow, enjoy your awesome video card and stop worrying about things.
