new athlon SLI system

budget 1300. asus motherboard, sli (one vid card to start), athlon64/recommendation, nvidia card. what would you build with those requirements? building one similar to that. and curious what everyone else would do. (include extra accessories you'd get, like fan controllers. but don't put them in the 1300 price)

depending on the ram you currently have it might also be fine as well

and many people are going to tell you that SLI is pointless and i tend to agree, there is little benefit, i woudl just sell what you arnt useing and buy a 6800GT or 7800 if you coudl swing it

ok, i agree SLI doesnt really give you enough bang for the buck, stick with the highest end single card you can get, going dual core will help you ALOT more then a socket thats dying out quickly(especially in the upgrade market in a couple years)

dual core seems to have more function in the new windows vista coming out and as its more supported itll be better for ya as it becomes more supported.

if you HAVE to go SLI just buy a single high end card with that mobo and buy another card down the road when they cheapen up (mini upgrade)

The other thing to look at is that I noticed an ad on nvidia site last night that there is a vid card company that is giving a free sli motherboard away with the purchase of one of their 7800gtx (I think, might have been a lower spec model) with a link to zipzoomfly.com. I am not sure on the motherboard but it could be a cheaper way of getting a better video card if the difference between the cost of mb + vid card you are looking at is not much different to the cost of the vid card + free mb.

dual 6600gt is a waste it competes with like a 6800gt why not just get a 6800gt. btw sli is a waste of money the people who say they are gonna buy 1 card now and another later i would say like more than half dont buy another card because another card comes out that will beat there card times 2. plus you have to use double the power because its two cards and have more heat in your case because its two cards instead of one.

why dual 7800gtx? there is no need for that much power right now. one 7800gtx is more than enough and can handel any game out than by the time you will want a 7800gtx there is gonna be a new card out lets just say the 8 series of nvidia that is better than two 7800gtx's in sli.

what res do you use right now? will you be getting a new monitor i saw ur one in your rig btw it doesnt work so i had to search it up anyways i couldnt find anythign on it on google that is why i am asking.

1024x768. i run all my games in 640x480 at 120hz.
