New Athlon 2100+ Overclocking...

Ok, I am about to purchase the following setup:

AMD Athlon XP 2100+ Revision B Core
Epox 8RDA+ with Vantec Iceberg Copper Chipset Cooler applied with AS Thermal Adhesive (Replacing original cooling)
Corsair 1GB PC3200 DDR Platinum
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Thermalright SLK-900 with 92mm Vantec Tornado Fan and AS3
Replacing my Five Screamer 80mm Case fans with Thermaltake Smart Fan II's
Antec SX1040B with 400W Antec Power Supply

Now, I am looking for some help because I am not sure what settings I should run as far as FSB, Memort Timings, Multiplier, Vcore, etc. to attain the best overclock/performance. What speed do you think I should be able to reach? Thanks for the help.

Only you can tell how far that setup will go. You seem to have very nice components there (8RDA+, good choice ) so nothing will hold you back.

There are a bunch of methods of overclocking. Try setting the voltage to 1.65-1.75V and see how far you can push the CPU. You should have no problem booting at 13X166 FSB (gives 2.168 GHz). Then up the FSB speed in 5 or 10 MHz increments and see if it posts/boots.

Is that memory 2 X 512MB or 1 X 1GB? 2 X 512MB I'm sure, which is good. Put them in slot 1 and 3 for dual channel DDR. Also make sure to set AGP speed to 66 MHz in the BIOS, make sure the RAM is set to 2-2-2-5, etc.

That is 2x512MB sticks, do you think that they I will be able to hit something like 12x200? This should set my FSB/CPU in sync correct? At 12x200 or 2.4GHZ will my memory be abel to handle 2-2-2-5? So on the Nforce there is an AGP/PCI Lock? And so I need to install the memory in slots 1 and 3 for dual-channel mode...does this significantly increase performance over say single channel DDR400? Thanks.

Yes sync is preferred, there have been wide variations reported with the 8RDA+ with about 190-195FSB being the average before mods. If you want to increase your likelihood of hitting 200FSB consider; adding a SB heatsink & replacing the NB heatsink with HSF & if all else fails consider doing the voltmod. 8RDA+ FAQ

Likely if you increase Vdimm to 2.8 or so.

Ok, sounds good, I was looking at this for active cooling on the northbridge and also applying it using Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive. The link was dead, so how do I do the voltage mod? Thanks.

ANy reason for putting ram in slots 1 & 3 instead of 1 & 2? I mistakenly put my crucial pc2100 in 1,3 but was going to put my new twinmos/winbond pc3200 in 1,2 until I read this thread.

Also for the original poster, u may want to look at the twinmos/winbond chips over the Corsair. Much less expensive and people have been reporting better results with the twinmos over the corsair in the 8rda+ boards.

12 x 200 isn't impossible...

actually, i'm sure it's possible...

but there's no way of making sure of how stable it'll be...

so i'd prime95 it and memtest86 it to make sure it's stable....

my 2100+ can load up at 2500 but of course prime95 fails within seconds (requires vcore of 1.9V)

I hope you know what you are in for when you purchase that 92mm Tornado, other than that it looks pretty good

Haha, I'm not overly worried about it, I know it's gonna be loud as a mofo, but it can't be any louder than the two I have currently in my system now, along with the three other 80mm fans...that's why I'm getting the Smart Fans, so my case will be quiter...I already own the RAM that's why I am using it, I'll probably start off at 13*166 to start off with and then move up from there...I'm looking forward to getting back into AMD overclocking...Intel has gotten boring...haha. Thanks.
