New AT&T/Cingular Phone

So, I'm getting the chance to finally ditch this cheap no name phone for (hopefully) a good one.

Basically, I can get any AT&T/Cingular phone (that works with their network, like one of the ones off of their site, but not necessarily bought from their site).

I was thinking about the Razr V3xx although I've heard some bad things about the Razr phones.

Any suggestions.

The V3xx is a great phone (used upgrade discount to let a friend get one). I've had a BlackJack for a month now and I love it.

Having several V3xx's I'd get the blackjack. The Razr stops working when I grip it to tight I'll drop calls. It half shuts off and needs a reboot if you drop it from almost any height.. It's ear piece is hard to get used to being right up top so you have to wedge the end of phone in your ear canal to hear anything. Razrs are about looks not usability and features which blackjack has gobs. blackjack is probably the best deal on phone by any provider lucky for you cingular has it for $99 or walmart even cheaper..

Forgot to mention Razr battery has never lasted me a full day because it's low maH pack. I've broken several too because hinge is cheap and breaks backwards. If you want a flip phone look at the Motorola V365 it has a 1200ma batt for long life and is much better built. Unfortunatly with cingulars insurance I can't get one, only another razr v3xx over and over:( so I have to wait till contract expires to get a decent phone.

If you can wait....The new RAZR2 V9 will be out at the end of July which addresses many faults Razr has.

buy a gophone (AT&T prepaid phone) and put your AT&T sim in it. Usually much cheaper than buying a phone out of contract from the carrier, and better than taking your chances with buying a used/refub phone.

Does anyone know if the blackjack is upgradeable to winmobile 6.0 when it becomes available?

now, after reading briefly on the HoFo forums, where do i go to buy some accessories?
i want a nice hard case, headphones or headphone adaptor and a 2gb microSD card.

Are you positive WM6 will be a free upgrade, or any upgrade at all? Can you buy/get it separate from a phone? I just bought a blackjack and would love to upgrade to WM6 when it's out. Will it run well on the hardware in the blackjack? Where do you get this? Take it into AT&T? Microsoft?

I'd heard that the devices are built to meet minimum standards of the OS they are installing so that you'd have to buy a better device to get the upgraded OS. That could just be conspiracy theory though.

I'm pretty happy with my iPhone. I can't imagine going back to anything else. AT&T's service is less than stellar, but it's acceptable enough. What features are you looking for? That really determines which phone you should. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

-will I be traveling outside the U.S.? (ex. quad-band)
-will I be listening to music?
-watching videos?
-surfing the net?
-do I care about thin and light?
-do I want a flip phone? touchscreen?

The Razr is the worst phone out there in the world. It's amazing how the Razr is the US' most popular phone whereas its nowhere in the charts in worldwide sales.

They had a good ad campaign in the U.S., and it was well timed. Phones were getting bigger and bigger, then the Razr showed up marketed as a sleek smaller phone. I'm not saying they're good phones, just well marketed. I was not impressed when I looked at it. The original Razr just seemed cheap, and it was really wide.

Yes, upgrade will be free and provided by at&t. Rumour was the late July release, but looks like it has been pushed back to September. There was a Beta version leaked couple of weeks ago but people are reporting major bugs with this ROM so I'd hold out and wait for the official release.
