A7V jumper free.750mhz T bird. 300watt power supply. etc.
It came with 128meg 100mhz ram. I have pc133 here and want to install
Do I have to change multiplyer? What is the best way to o/c this rig?
What is a reaspnable figure to reach that is stable?
Appreciate any help.

Installing the RAM and overclocking are two different things.

First, you can't run PC-100 and PC-133 RAM at the same time. So take out the PC-100 and put in the PC-133. Reboot.

As for overclocking, if your CPU is locked you can only overclock by raising the front side bus. This can be done in the BIOS in jumperfree mode. Try raising it to 110, then run a bunch of tests to make sure its stable: 3dmark loop, Prime95, Unreal tournament, burn a CD, etc. If its stable try going up by one at a time til you become unstable. The highest you can get stable is where you should leave it. On my A7V I got my FSB up to 113. At 115 I locked up in Unreal Tournament.

But the better way to do it is by unlocking your CPU, and changing with a combination of CPU multiplier and front side bus. This must be done in jumper mode.

Reasonable figure is impossible to say. Some people would max out at about 825, others will get a 750 up to 1000 or more. Its luck of the draw.

Start your system at the default settings and make sure there are no conflicts in the device manager, before making any adjustments. If your system is stable, look for multiplier adjustments in the bios (you said your board was jumper free?) and try running at .5 or 1.0 higher than default. Your default multiplier setting is 7.5, so try 8, then 8.5. Then I would try to raise the cpu core voltage to 1.77 or 1.8, and see if your system is stable. You may also raise your fsb setting from default to 103-105, but the kt133 chipset on your motherboard doesn't allow you to raise your fsb much. Your goal is a stable system that doesn't lock up or start rebooting on it's own. Your max cpu temp should be about 50 celcius (124 f) under load. But don't worry if the asus probe reports it higher (they often do). When your system is stable, try running it awhile. Don't be in a hurry. Thunderbird 750 cpu's don't overclock very well anyway. Then start saving your money. The 1.4 athlons dropped to only $107 on pricewatch this weekend.

you will not be able to change the multiplier..it is locked...is it a Socket A..you can close the L1 bridges with either a rear defogger kit or lead pencil..to unlock..

You can put in the PC133ram and run it at 100mhz no problem..the A7V will only allow a fsb overclock t oabout 105 or so..anything more will probably crash..the KT133 chipset is not 133 fsb capable..the KT133A is or the A7V133

Unless you unlock the mulitplier you will only be able to overclock the fsb..

My FSB ran at 113 on my A7V for weeks without a crash or lockup. Maybe I'm lucky.

that said, I agree with you that unlocking the CPU and overclocking with the multipliers in Jumpermode is the way to go when overclocking on this board and chipset.
