New Asus VH236H vs. used BenQ FP241W

My monitor's DVI inputhas ceased to function, and I find myself in need of a replacement. I'd like a widescreen with the same height as my current 19", which means I'm looking at roughly 23".

The current bargain-of-the-week is the 23" Asus VH236H, at $189 + tax & shipping - $20 MIR, complete with warranty from Newegg. The alternative is a used 24" Benq fp241W being sold by a private seller for about the same.

The Asus has some pretty impressive specs - 2ms g2g refresh rate, 1080p, et cetera - but pictures I've seen on a "monitor comparison" site show a monitor vastly inferior to competing screens from Samsung and Viewsonic. The BenQ on the other hand, is a premium screen, but the three-year-old-design (the monitor is said to be one year old) is showing its' age - many specs are roughly on par with the Asus, though picture quality seems to be a good bit better.

Any thoughts?

Prepare yourself for dead pixels or worse, stuck-on pixels.

Buying new from at least some vendors (not Newegg last I checked) you can return withing 30 days for even 1 dead/stuck pixel.

I would avoid eCost personally. I can't speak for others but my brother, his friends, and myself have all purchased stuff from them in the past. ALL of our stuff was defective in some way (some minor, some major.) Their customer service is nonexistent as you won't be able to contact them. I understand we are in no way representative but I just feel like I need to warn others who haven't tried them before. We didn't all buy refurb stuff either.

Good to know. Looks like the Asus is a much better idea.

I've found a good deal locally on a used LCD, and am strongly considering it - I need a new screen ASAP.
