New Asus router...

They just updated a boat load of things with a new firmware today. It looks like it has the specs to be awesome. It seems like they are integrating from the merlin custom firmwares.

Saw someone recommend getting some 9 db antennas for it to boost performance.

I'll let it shake down for another month or so.

How do you get stronger antennas for it?

Think I'll be getting it, but not now, as I just got a new monitor and video card...ouch.

You just buy higher gain antennas with compatible connectors. I think I saw the link on Amazon's reviews of it.

Is it worth getting this Asus router, versus the Cisco/LinkSys E4200v2 that I have now, in terms of gaming performance?

The E4200v2 is pretty new. I upgraded to an RT-N66U from a wrt54g and I noticed an improvement in my pings and consistency of pings.

It's been getting good reviews. Has been tested as the fastest wireless router by some sites.

I'd say it would be better than the Linksys for gaming as it has a faster CPU. Could make the difference if you are multi-tasking. Then again, depending on your usage, it may make no difference at all.

While many reviews provide good extensive Technical info that is Not provided by the Marketing oriented BS Info of the manufacturers, the bench marks are of little use to Entry level users, they do not realy refelct the usrs issues.

So being the fastest Router in these benchmarks is really useless info.

Depends on what you are using the router for. If the users in your home are heavy data users, particularly on the LAN, then having fast, stable wireless is important.
