I upgraded my desktop from Black Friday 2014 with
  • (2x4GB) DDR3
  • a new video card
My old mobo is an Asrock H61M/U3S3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 with an i3-2100 Sandy Bridge cpu and a video card until the video card went to my gf's pc and I just used the Intel video circuitry for the past 2 years.

I installed the new card and no picture...not even my monitor registered a response. I took my gf's vid card and same failure.
I put the new card into her pc and it worked.

I figure it's either my mobo or the PS unit.

I'm considering moving my gf's psu to my box and booting up to see. My mobo is herehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157236
My PSU is an Thermaltake Purepower 500 NP.
The system was built April of 2011.

If the mobo card slot is bad I could use this pc for delivering online to my big screen, but I don't want to build a new system to replace it just to use the new vid card.

Can I return it to newegg? ... I know, I could call them, but I didn't want to build a new system until skylake.

Input and ideas welcome. I'm 65 years old, have a f'n headache and the Vicodin is useless. Talk to me please.

Make sure you are not forgetting the power cable for the video card in your PC.
Also, if you have set the BIOS to only boot off the Intel video, you would need to switch it to auto detect so that it will look for your card. A reset of the BIOS can also be used to accomplish this.

If none of this works, and considering your former card also seemed to "die" from this slot, you may consider that there is a problem with that slot, or your power supply is not supplying enough power for it.

Check your BIOS settings to make sure it is configured to use the PCIe video card instead of the onboard video.

It sounds like you diagnosed the issue already. It has to be something with your motherboard, or perhaps a bios setting. Did you try installing the video card and then clearing the bios?

Seconded.

Also, are you sure the card(s) won't require extra power? Looking on the Newegg site, I see that there's definitely a power connector on the "upper" side of the card, close to the HDMI port. Did you connect the PSU to it?

Good call, 79. It was indeed in the bios. Thanks.

Why in Windows Experience Index does my windows 7 Graphics performance for windows aero read 1.0?
Also, when I scroll my window here in the forum the lines of text do a little rippling as if the drivers aren't working here.
I have the most recent Nvidia drivers (344.75) installed.
Windows 7

I am assuming you have refreshed the WEI score.

Go ahead and remove the Intel graphics drivers. I have a couple computers running fine with both, but there could be an issue.

Since the card dates back to February, don't be deterred from trying some older drivers. Once the 900s came out, I don't think much improvement would have take place on "older" cards.
