there's part of a running config I just pulled off it. Anyone seen anything like that? Anything I can do other than just call cisco?

have you tried a different pc/cable/terminal program?

seems like an emulation prob, not an asa issue

looks more like 7E1/7O1 than 98N

obviously this is a non-gray market model? you have legit smartnet on it? do you live in the orient?

This is what I was thinking originally, no Grey market at all, bought by the government(US) through one of our suppliers. I talked with Cisco and after over an hour or trying this and that we determined that the console port on the ASA is bad.

Why would they be different out of the box? Either way, How would one go about changing those settings? Obviously boot to rommon but where would I go from there?

You can change console port settings in there. It's been forever since I've neede to do so.

Agree to just make them replace it. That's what support is for. Use it.

Got our replacement, same issue. The serial connection works fine to every other device, I've tried several old cisco switches we have laying around and it works 100% of the time. What are the chances of getting 2 firewalls with bad console ports?

Did TAC have any other thoughts when you called or did you just ask for a replacement without explaining the issue?

The first time I was on the phone for 3 hours we tried tons of stuff. This time they weren't so helpful. They're going to get back with me if they can find any information that may help. If not I guess I'll just get another replacement. Every time I call it seems like I'm getting some guy fresh out of training they are completely clueless about whats going on. The guy today didn't know the default com port settings...

Yea as with any tech support it's hit or miss. But you can always ask to be escalated to the duty manager (think that's the right term) and should get someone more competent.

I've had tons of problems with those USB/serial adapters. So much so that I won't use them.

that's freaking insane. Something so simple. I grabbed our old laptop and used the built in serial port and it works fine. Doesn't make any sense that it would work one way but not the other, does it?
