Yes indeed. I suppose this is the reason this company first worked on a patch to resolve Gothic 3's problems before they began working on this title (it's not the same company that did Gothic 3) to sort of build up some confidence in them

I'm stroked, mostly by hearing what seems to be at least variations on Kai Rosenkranz's music.
I wonder if he is composing the soundtrack?

The visuals look pretty good.

Woah!

If you like/loved the Gothic 1 and 2, try out Risen.

Not as good looking as Arcania video but still has really nice scenery and visuals.

Gothic 3 was good IMO, much worse than Gothic 1 and 2, but still much better than the uselessly unbalanced, empty, simplistic tripe that was Oblivion. With that said, this looks to fall somewhere between Gothic 3 and the aforementioned tripe fiesta, but hopefully it's not all that bad.

I absolutely agree with you here. Hopefully the gameplay will be as impressive as the visuals.

Was the gameplay bad because of the bugs or even without bugs it would still be bad? I was thinking about giving the gothic series a go.

When G3 was first released quests were pretty buggy and the performance overall was pretty atrocious. I spent several weeks (no joke) tweaking ini files so I was able to at least play through it. I'm a huge Gothic fan, but even that was a little excessive now that I look back on it. My tweaks did help a lot of other people over on the JoWood forums, so maybe it was time well spent to some extent.. Anyway. :) With the latest community patch it plays very well on most machines, even older ones, so it's definitely worth a try IMO.

Honestly, if you can get over the dated graphics, get the Gothic Universe collection and start with G1. I think you'll be glad you did in the long run. The Gothic series is by far my favorite RPG series so I can't recommend it enough.

so if that trailer is a fair representation, then it'll be like Morowind: 90% of your time running from point A to point B, maybe to point C, then back to point A, where another rather meaningless quest asks you to run back out to point B.

fuck that.

No it's really not if they keep the world sizes like before. They are large enough that you can explore a bit but they are quite nicely compact. It's not like Morrowind/Oblivion where you can literally walk for minutes without coming across anything interesting. Again speaking of the previous Gothic series. Also Gothic tends to give you a few choices for fast travel like recall spells and mage circles to teleport you if you want.

This game better get some developer polish. The community did wonders for Gothic 3, but its not their responsibility to fix everything the developers and publishers didn't.

It looks interesting, the environments and equipment look very original (not the high fantasy crap Oblivion pulled with chain mail and plate clumsily integrated in the same universe). The baddies don't look too bad either.

This.

If you can immerse yourself in a RPG the prison colony is an incredible world to experience.

yeah I know... they better be careful with this release if they want to grow their franchise

they dont have a big brand name recognition for this series like TES that they can sweep things under the rug with

Yep Risen was very good, I played it twice and mage was like GOD in that game ,a lot easier then warrior class,it was also very polished with minimum amount of bugs.

Gothic 3 will be known for amount of bugs it had when it was first released and those dreaded boars that would stun lock you before you died so fast, community did wonders with the patches and made it a good game.

Gothic 4 should be a lot better then G3 bug wise, only time will tell but I have high hopes for G4,if they aim for Risen standard then it can't fail :).

Mainly because of the bugs ,however with the latest community patch its good game IMHO,however G1 was a better game and Gothic 2 good as well,I have replayed those again and even with dated graphics they're still enjoyable.

I would recommend to play them in order (you don't need to however)so you can follow the characters storyline as it was meant to be ....Gothic 1 was/is a classic .

Yeah G1 is still my favorite.

I really like how combat system at first felt clunky and awkward - I thought wow this sucks I'll never get used to this. But as you advanced in the game and picked up skills not only by character but also your own better handling of the keys you become a master at it and learn to use nice combos.

Not like oblivion/morrowind where right off the bat you just spam your slash key and you win

Gothic has a huge following in Europe, more like the elder scrolls does here.

Just read some info on Gamespot; There are going to be "skill trees" in Gothic 4.

I don't know why, but as an avid Gothic fan that just makes my heart sink a bit. When I see "skill tree" I really see "console port".

I'm sure I'll still buy it.

Yeah, this game is definitely going to be "consolized". They've been hinting at that from the beginning. But since Piranha Bytes reformed and are under a new publisher all hope is not lost. We still have Risen (and hopefully an expansion) and whatever they develop next. I'm not holding my breath for Arcania but if it gets decent reviews I may pick it up.
