I'm having a tough choice deciding on which server to build for my new application & database server. Want some room for expansion so even though I won't use all that CPU power on the application side of things I might in the future with some data mining techniques on the database.
I've two systems spec'd and everything is the same but the CPUs and RAM.
If I go for 2xMP2400 they are so cheap that I can toss another 1.5 GB of ECC RAM (3x512) into that system. Perhaps 2xMP2400 and 2 GB total ECC RAM.
What do you guys think for application and database server...which would you rather have, dual 2400s or 240s?
PS The app would be threaded and optimized for multiprocessors.
Oh and in addition, WHY does AMD keep their MP chips at 266 FSB? Why don't they up it like the 333, and 400 XPs? Anyone know if they have intent on doing that?
