I've never bought one. I am not sure how Airplay works frankly.

But, the new Apple TV that is coming out, will the iOS games play off of the Apple TV itself? Or via Airplay?

I have a slew of iOS games that would look great on the big screen, and I am considering buying an Apple TV, just for that.

The games will play on the Apple TV hardware and have to support the remote/wand...so it is possible that some of your games will not work off the bat.

I have the original AppleTV and used it religiously until I upgraded to a SmartTV that was easier to just use built in apps. I'm tempted by the newest AppleTV, but will likely wait for reviews. Seems like a poor choice not to strap their latest chip in the device (A9X).

AirPlay is awesome by the way. Instantly share whatever is on your iDevice/Mac up on the big screen.

Thank you Prickly Pete.

Sounds like if the reviews are bust for the new Apple TV, I might as well get a last gen model to play iOS games on my TV.

Just remember one thing. If you're trying to play mobile games on your TV, realize that with many mobile games, you need to be looking at the device to see the controls. No tactile feedback means it's harder to control without looking.

Depending on the type of game, actually looking at the TV and playing the mobile game may be annoying/frustrating.

You don't need an AppleTV for AirPlay. I use a piece of software called AirServer on my HTPCs to give me AirPlay capabilities on my TVs. The recent upgrade that provided iOS 9 support actually made mirrored gaming far more possible. I recall trying it before with Super Hexagon (super twitchy game), and it was nigh impossible to play with the huge latency; however, I tried it again last night, and it was fine. There was still definitely some latency, but I was able to play through it. Also, basic Home Screen browsing was significantly better.

The only bad thing? AirServer changed their licensing about a year ago. You used to get three licenses for about the same price that you pay for one now. :(
