New Apple titanium Powerbook

New 800MHz G4 Apple Powerbook

The revised PowerBook is now up to 800MHz and features a 15.2" wide screen at 1280x854 (up from 1152x768). It also appears to feature a standard DVI port and Apple is selling a DVI-to-ADC connector to connect to their fancy LCDs.

It's more evolutionary than revolutionary.

i like.

if only i could afford.

DITTO!
I think I'de rather have an i-book though .. not only cause they're cheaper, but because then I wouldn't feel like such a rich SOB. Is that wrong of me?

Sweet. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I didn't already have a 667MHz one from October. I'm sorry, but I have yet to see a PC laptop that holds a candle to this little monster. Slow as molasses for web browsing, sadly, but hey, I'd like to see real-time DV editing/transitions on a PC laptop -- final cut pro rocks. Don't think I'd buy a desktop mac, but their portables rock!

Have you tried Vegas Video by Sonic Foundry? It had real-time DV editing/transitions before FCP did. I use Final Cut Pro and it is quite nice, but Vegas Video has a lot that makes me drool too.

I just got an iBook....love it! Still would love a TiBook though! OSX is just too sweet on a G4 system. Then again, I do have an 867 G4 Tower, so I really don't need a laptop that's as strong as this new one.......now if it was my only computer, different story! 😉

Not much of an improvement. If only the iBooks had G4s though, I'd be VERY happy. I don't need the extra non-features of the TiBook, except the G4 would allow me to do some DVD-related stuff I can't do now on the iBook.

One significant advantage of the TiBook is that Apple supports using it with the cover closed and driving an external monitor. This doesn't work on the iBook.

Well, at least you can turn off the iBook monitor and it still displays fine on the external monitor (since X.1.3), although it's only a mirror and you can't use higher resolutions. This however, isn't an added feature per se on the TiBook, this is a feature intentionally deleted from the iBook (since the video chip is very capable of doing this).

I was talking more about stuff like Ir, slot load, Gigabit Ethernet (although this may be important later), Ti case.

Apple's laptop's are so damn cool. Maybe by the time they release the update for OS X (Jaguar), which comes out at the end of summer, I'll have enough to get one. That along with whatever the latest iPod is.

Hopefully they'll update the iBook by then so I don't have to go all out on a TiBook.
