Holy crap. Nice.

iMac Yonah Core Duo with Radeon X1600.

15.4" Macbook Pro Yonah Core Duo

OS X 10.4.4 is also Intel native, as are iWork and iLife. The pro apps will be coming in March for Intel.

I guess I will be upgrading my iMac coming summer. :) I was hoping for a 23" incher though. :p

Is the price on the new Imac still going to start at $1299?

And what about Front Row 2.0?

I guess we better make sure we confiscate any sharp objects from anyone who just bought a Powerbook or iMac over Christmas. We probably better get their shoe laces, too.

I like the new PowerBook with regards to the tech, but I'm not so fond of the name. I mean seriously, MacBook? And where are the 12" and 17" versions; I don't need something as big as a 15", 12" is fine.

and no Firewire 800
Eh, the lack of Firewire 800 is no big deal, it wasn't heavily used anyhow. Firewire 400 is fine for a laptop, IMHO. As for PCMCIA, there's a new PCI-Express based slot, a ExpressCard/34 slot, the sucessor to PCMCIA.

Well few of the PowerBook G4's have ever had S-Video out, that was usually done via a dongle. However, you're right in that they aren't including a S-Video dongle with the PowerBook, which is odd.

I'm in love (with the MacBook), and although I'd sell my left testicle to get one, I'd give both if it had the following: faster processor (>2Ghz), higher res (at least 1600x1200), Firewire 800, guaranteed to dual-boot Windows, and ability to burn dual layer DVD (can only read DL).

Firewire 800 can be installed with an ExpressCard adapter.
S-video will be with the DVI out adapter.

New Macs use EFI which probably means Windows XP will NOT run on them.

I will wait for a 13" laptop, Core Solo or Core Duo. I'd prefer not to buy a Celeron M iBook, but even that would do if it's cheap.

P.S. The X1600 supports H.264 acceleration.

So in addition to the $2000, you have to spend more money on an express card and adapter...

That's the thing, they're not including the adapter with the laptop, which is odd, at $20 it should be included. As for EFI, I don't know enough to say for sure if I agree with you or not. I'd imagine it's possible that if there's a problem, a bootloader could be written that would be able to get Windows to work.

Well, the DVI adapter is cheap, and I don't know anyone who actually uses Firewire 800, so I'm not surprised it's gone.

The good news is the new EFI Macs still support Firewire booting. They don't support USB 2.0 booting though, despite the fact that Intel Mac developer boxes did.

So now we have Microsoft on PowerPC (Xbox 360), and Apple on Intel. The end is near...

The new Macbooks run windows just fine...EFI will not limit the installation or booting of linux or windows.
