Hubba Hubba!!~! Now, what in the hell keeps it from tipping over - is the base made out of lead? It just looks WAY too small for a screen that size. :p

They kind of already do. If you are a student you can get apple loans to get that nice new shiny g5. :)

I want one.

When I got on my Mac earlier today and opened up Firefox to the apple homepage, my heart skipped a beat when I saw those beauties!

$3300, that's a wee bit.

Mac logic..... "but we only need to sell one..."

You do realize it would still be expensive as hell if it was for PCs. It's 30" and has an incredibly high resolution for LCDs. I think the price fits.

well mac logic is more like.. "we'll over charge every product we sell, some more, some not as much. we'll get away with it just because we are apple!"

i'd say it should be under 3 grand, where is that CC 10% off coupon?? it sure is nice tho..

they'll sell as many of those 30" as they can make.

They're not intended for joe blow consumer, they're intended for people doing things like high def tv/vid content creation/manipulation. In that market, screen real estate is king, and Apple has just sewn it up if they can deliver, especially if the display adapter never comes out for wintel.

There are a few Quadro and Fire-GL cards in the PC domain that have dual-link DVI but these also cost from 600$ way up to 2200$ on Newegg...
So wintel also has the cards for these monsters.

3.3K is also a fair price considering these screens are meant for professional use and are validated accordingly. Don't go and compare these to a Dell or even a Samsung. Compare them with "top of the line" Eizo screens which have the same target market.

How would this monitor compare to an LCD HDTV? I'm a bit out of the loop on the HD resolutions, but I imagine 1080i wouldn't be difficult for that 30 incher. If you compare the cost to a 30" LCD TV, the price doesn't seem so bad. Course, you need a PC to go with it, but hey, we already have those.

-D'oh!

There are cheapie LCDs that are only 1024x768 or such.... Less than HD, regardless.

But the Mac 30" can do better than 1080i, it can do 1080p! Now that's rockin'. :D

I'd still rather have this one

True, while the resolution doesn't beat the 3840x2400 (QUXGA-W) of the IBM, the price of the 30" Apple seems like a steal compared to the 22" IBM.

I played with that IBM monitor and the resoulution is CRAZY. At 3840x2400 I could barely read anything. I had to put my face real close to the screen to be able to read the xp start button. Oh yeah and the 5950 that it was hooked into was having a REAL hard time displaying stuff at the rez. In any case that monitor rocks.

Where did you see it?

If you look at IBMs site, a 5950 won't work with that monitor...
