Has anyone seen the new apple ad with the bodygaurd which represents the new UAC feature in Vista, keeps asking PC guy if he wants to "allow or deny". The apple guy stands there acting smug b/c its free of security holes.

I use to find these ads funny but now I just find them to be annoying and overly smug.

Do others feel the same way.

I like some of them, like the ones about the photo editing and film editing cuz... it's true. But a couple of them have been outright lies, like the security hole thing. It's not that it's more secure, it's just that not enough people have macs so viruses aren't really produced for macs. There have been viruses but nobody really knows since nobody uses macs, so why make a big deal about it? I did see a few news clips about viruses starting to crop up more frequently since osx is getting popular. This was right after I saw the "more secure" ad too, heh.

Yeah, these commercials are getting old fast. Most of them are outright lies and it seems Apple is just trying to fool people into buying their products that aren't too informed about computers. Hah, this commercial actually just came on now...wow.

Yeah, there's a simple way to stop that thing from happening...
Turn it off (like he says in the commercial) and use a router and AV program.
Done deal.

Wow... your logic is great. :) I wouldn't have thought of that...

I still find the ads funny. Some of them are outright lies. Specially the part that PCs are all about work and that the Mac is all about fun. Wow!

I watched a bunch of them all in a row once and apple almost convinced me. Then I slapped myself in the face and came to reality.

These started pissing me off a long time ago, especially when the Mac fans at school got into an uproar about them. They actually seem to think Mac makes these commercials for their good fun (basically to laugh about), and that they arent trying to convince people Mac's are better.

The one that really had me riled up was that PC's are only for work. What complete BS.

Is there some kind of petition for Apple to quit this ****** or something?

Yeah that whole PCs are only for work image is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. How many people game on a Mac?...unless you count the cool included checkers game.

I've never seen one appear on British TV and when I try to view the ones on their website it for some reason refuses to run (claims QT is not installed).

From what I hear about them they're not worth watching so i'm not mising much :).

They've bothered me from the beginning, they are so smug and completely untrue the exact the thing that pissed so many people off about apple in the first place.

They say Kerry lost because he spent all his time saying, "At least I'm not Bush" when he should have been talking about his strengths and ideas.

Apple's Mac ads remind me of that. I think you should sell a product by emphasizing its merits, not ridiculing the competition (which is silly considering they have a 90% monopoly in the business and aren't even equal competition). I'm sure Microsoft doesn't even care apart from maybe frowning a little.

One of the ads implies PC's are 'stupid' because they are upgradable with the example being a Webcam.....nuff said

they should totally make a version that is pro-pc - have the Mac guy watching PC play a brand new game, and the PC guy asks the Mac guy why he isn't playing, and Mac guys says "mac versions typically come out months and months after the PC version"

Come on you dont think playing Photoshop and listening to iTunes is fun?
Certainly more fun than a PC which has thousands of Games available to it.

I hear Crysis will be out this year with a timefram for 2010 for the Mac :D

I just wish that MS would come out with a Pro PC guy vs. apple guy tv ad. It would have been perfect for the superbowl.

Any ideas?

I have too much tiime on my hand. So I did a little wiki search. Learned a lot about these adds, especially some of the spoofs with linux, funny stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_a_Mac

But I still stand by initial claim that the adds are becoming too simplistic and overly smug.

Maybe they just need to bring in a new apple guy actor. Cause I remember watching him in 'Accepted" and his acting came of as being smug in the movie as well.

At the very bottom of the wiki page I posted above, there is link to the GAM analysis. Very informative. Learned alot about marketing and presenting commercials.

I like the Spoofs of these commercial found at youtube.

My favorite was the one with PC,MAC and Linux guy. Linux guy tries to get into the argument

"linux runs all you servers..." gets cut off "dude shut the f--ck up"
