one of my buddies mentioned something like that... that somebody came and started saying all these conversations that he'd had before (conversations my buddy had had), and must have been logged somewhere.

Dammit, NO! Don't help the AOL demons! Keep them at bay, foolish man!

what I was talking about with my friend is not something to be joked about.

I am dead serious.

I don't know what fun little games your friends like to play but it is physically impossible for AIM to log your conversations unless you tell it to. AOL employs no monitors to check people's conversations.

Unless you enable logging, or someone is in your box reading your logs, I seriously doubt you have a real problem. The only way this is possible is if someone hacked your box.

what's some quick steps I can check to make sure no ones in my box?

Check and see if any weird tasks are running (assuming this is windows) in your task manager.
Go to this site and scan your computer for virii.
If you're ultra paranoid, uninstall aim and then reinstall it.

In all honesty it's probably just your friend messing with you

once when my friend logged onto someone's else machine (a mac) and logged out (specified not save passwd), it saved the passwd anyway. so when the mac owner opened up aim, it auto logged in and so both were online on the same name at the same time.

it was wierd, if i said something to my friend, it would show up on both his comp and the mac. both could speak to me from their respective comps, and i'd get em seemingly from the same sn.

I'll say again what we talk about is nothing to mess around with. It contains personal information. So yes I'm paranoid

AIM protects this from happening by logging you out if another person tries to access the same account.

No strange tasks and trend micro is running. all are windows task. ecept iexplorer and aim.exe

someone on the inside could be forging your packets....I know I could view and packet forge with ettercap
you can also use ethereal to analyze the packets

Have you clicked any links from people you don't know, or even close friends that have appeared to launch a game, or do nothing at all?

Any links are links to CNN news article. Most I already read or currently read so I never bother clicking.

They know I don't play games online so I never get any offers.

I only chat on aim

trend micro finish. shows no virus.

OK because there was a semi popular aim exploit a few months ago there was a way to parse links to cause a buffer overflow in the victims machine, causing them to have complete control over the system. AOL said they fixed the error server side, but you never know. At any rate, do you keep logs of what you talk about?
