Agreed

The 2006 cls55 looks sexy as hell. A guy I work with just bought a New-to-Him CLS55 with low mileage for around $50k. It is black with black leather and looks like sex.

This car just looks over stylized and awkward.

A twin-turbo V12 making 600 hp? Geez, I bet Brabus chips these for 800+ hp.

Pretty sure they have stated that the engine can put out like 750hp but the tranny reliability is the more limiting factor here.

Yeah, and the torque when chipped is like 1000+ lb.ft, problem is a combo of transmission and traction.

Yup, all the power in the world is useless if you can't put it down and have constant tranny problems.

same here.

Not really. These cars depreciate like mad. In couple of years, these things will be worth 1/3 of the cost of new.

too bad the new AMGs are about $200K

So was this car. SL65 had MSRP of around $185k before the gas guzzler and other taxes. Basically $200k car. 2005 with 14k miles is selling for $68k. That's about $120k depreciation in 4 years or $9 a mile.

1/2 really. See my post above. ;)

The main problem with cars like this is that they are maintenance nightmares and it costs thousands to repair things correctly when they fail once the car is out of warranty.

$120k saving buys you lifetime of maintenance.

Why can't Mercedes go to some other company for a new tranny design? SSC (Shelby SuperCars) might have a few trannies hanging around ;)

Yea I never got why they ask supercar prices for these but yet they go down in value like crazy.

Nice cars though, that's for sure.

Sure, if you were really in the market for a $120,000 car. I guarantee you that the guy I know who bought his couldn't afford that car when new though.

You can say what you want about Mercedes in general, but there's getting around the fact that AMG builds some fucking monster engines.

Probably go down in value because they are essentially daily drivers. You take these for a drive down to your business you're a CEO of, or the one you work for, impress your co-workers/boss, take them to lunch, etc.
