New AMD64 comp won't POST

My friend and I have just finished assembling his new PC and it doesn't seem to do much at startup. The PSU fan spins; the CPU fan spins; a green LED comes on in the corner of the motherboard. I don't hear any beeps and there doesn't seem to be any kind of error code LED thing on the motherboard. I don't have any experience with AMD comps so i'm kind of stuck. I disconnected the hard drives and took out the RAM. Still no result. How am I supposed to even diagnose this without any kind of error codes or beeps? The monitor doesn't turn on to display anything, either. Is it possible that the computer is booting up but we didn't connect the PC speaker properly or is the boot beeps independent of that? Either way, the comp turns on but nothing visibly/audibly happens that would indicate that it's booting.

System Specs:
AMD64 3000+
Asus K8V Deluxe
Corsair Value Select pc3200 RAM
ATI Radeon 9700PRO

Any ideas?

Power supply ? And even though I have one, I can't remember if it uses the extra 12v connector(and I'm not at home now). Also, do you have any better memory ? PC3200 is the MINIMUM memory, and I keep recmmending PC3500 CAS2, since the last poster with this problem never replied it it fixed it, but also never replied that it was still a problem after I suggested better memory.

No error codes...I suppose the only way to diagnose would be to swap stuff like ram, video card, and chip (whatever's available).

after some sluething, i found out that this mobo does verbal error codes; aka: you need speakers to hear them. I'm gonna avoid a rant on how stupid that is and relay what it told me: "System failed CPU test." It has an alternative error for no CPU installed so it's detecting something and then failing a test of some sort. I'm gonna try to take off the CPU and put it back in but I'm still puzzled as to what the problem is...

There's an official thread for your board now link The 2nd post is a guy who seems to have a similar problem and he just hits reset 3 to 4 times to get it to boot then all is well, have you tried doing that yet?

An interesting idea but I don't seem to have an SMI lead slot to block. My manual pag, and mobo, appears to be slightly different from the one on that page.

Mine looks like:

power led, 3 empty pins, speaker
- - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - -
IDE_LED, 3 empty pins, atx power switch, reset SW

I am the guy with about the same problem. I did not get a cpu error code though. Make sure you have the analog display setup first, then switch to digital display out. I actually have both connections hooked up right now, and it is working fine. Try that, and see.

If you didn't short it, it would boot into green mode and not post, I would hope they would have fixed it on newer boards.

Asus keeps wonky business hours so I'll try calling them tommorow to see if they can recommend anything; I doubt they'll be of much use so I'll keep hoping that someone here has a solution.

I can't find much info about that SMI lead short solution; furthermore, my mobo doesn't seem to have that (not that I even really understand what *that* is).

Leec: Are you talking about the DVI? I'm using a normal monitor connector, not an LCD or anything...Is that what you were reffering to?

Dumb question, but is your 9700 Pro plugged in to the floppy molex? If not, that will cause the system not to boot. Also, try disconnecting the power and clearing CMOS if you haven't already. Make sure the ram is populated according to the specs.

Another dumb question, you have the spacers in between the mobo and the case? The PSU voltage set to 110V?

can you even get into the bios? What case are you using? It ispossible you do not have the conectors on right. It makes a lot of difference if you dont have it connected right.

Make sure you do not hookup the led1, or 2 wires, as that is what I did in the first place, and it will mess you up. Just let them hang, and see what happens . The wires will be marked 1, and 2
