wonder how long AMD can take its financial bledding, unlike intel....

Man that financial bledding is gonna kill them....sorry that just cracked me up when i read it 🙂

a success could be a failure? as long as they're staying above their variable costs with this its a good thing, the sunk costs were long ago paid off... bet it took almost nothing to cut off some bits of this processor from the regular athlon. heck, biggest thing about this is it probably keeps the factory from idling, which probably costs AMD the same if its operating or not.

Interesting....wonder if it will work on the old Asus A7M266 I have sitting in my closet...that would make a nice 3rd system.

AMD's problem is that they're not advertising enough.
Same thing IBM did wrong back in the day with OS/2. It was FAR superior to Windows but IBM sucks ass at marketing.

So is this going to be a realitive of the Barton/Thorton cores or is it going to be more like a T-bred?

Uhh... It wasn't just bad marketing that killed OS/2. No amount of ads would have made up for the lack of available software.

IBM made it really difficult for developers to get access to the API's for OS/2, whereas Microsoft practically gave away that information to anyone who wanted it. OS/2 could also run Windows software, which gave developers even less incentive to write programs for it.

That, and they were promoting OS/2 while shipping machines with Windows 3.1 preinstalled.

D'oh!

As far as I know this is the Thorton. A barton with half the L2 cache. No PR rating just Mhz.
