Screeners could get x-ray vision

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (AP) -- A scanner the government is testing for airport screening reveals too much more than meets the eye to be comfortable for most passengers.

Susan Hallowell, director of the Transportation Security Administration's security laboratory, sacrificed a large measure of her own modesty Wednesday to demonstrate the problem.

She stepped into a metal booth that bounced X-rays off her skin to produce a black-and-white image that revealed enough to produce a world-class blush.

Her dark skirt and blazer disappeared on the monitor, where she showed up naked -- except for the gun and bomb she had hid under her outfit.

I fail to see what the big deal is.

These screeners are not going to be getting their jollies doing this, and I would suspect that even these government flunkies have seen real live naked male and female bodies before.

Most reasonable people would suspect that a penis is lurking beneath my clothing. So what if it shows up on a monitor (that I assume will not be visible to all passersby) while a security person checks for contraband on my person?

I'm afraid that my "piece" will be flagged as a weapon of mass destruction :p

Assuming it even registers on the screen.

i don't know why they don't just write some code to detect certain patterns. humans look at image only when software detects a possible.

And to think, they'd probably arrest you in most places if you jsut walked into the airport naked.

It doesn't look like it's going to do much if the person has the contraband inserted in their rectum or vagina. Maybe a solution to the modesty problem, would to scan at the skeletal level (like you see on Total Recall). Instead of XRays they could use some type of MRI type technology.

I foresee in the future an onslaught of posts asking "How can I become a doctor/nurse/paramedic???"
