Okay so i'm selling my 9800 pro for $125 Candian to my friend and i'm going to be needing a new card. So what AGP cards do you guys suggest? Price range can be up to say about $400, the cheaper the better.

I have been looking at x800gto's but i'm having trouble finding one that is able to be flashed to a x850xtpe AGP(especially shipping to Canada).

Edit:
My PC specs are(originally a HP a250n)
P4 2.6ghz with HT(going to be OC'ing once I get a new heatsink)
1gb PC2700(2x256 1x512)
ASUS P4SD-LA
500 watt Ultra X-Connect
Vantec PCI fan card(2x60mm)
200gb Maxtor Diamondmax 16mb cache 7200RPM(adding a 120gb 5400RPM Samsung to slave later)
Lots of cooling(2 front 80mm 1 side 80mm 1 top 80mm 1 back 120mm and of course the 2x80 in the PSU and the 2x60mm in the fan card)
if you need any other specs just post it.

Wait a second. Can the AGP x800 cards be modded? I thought it was only a select few of the PCI-E cards that could do it?

You might try an nVidia 6800nu (plain, not GT or Ultra) and see if you can unlock it to 16 pipes. (The PCI-E cards can't do it.) A good price would be $150.

Okay say if I got a 6800(with 128mb) and unlocked it to 16 pipelines, how compareable would it be to a X800XL?

The heatsink on the first one doesn't look the best so I would say I would get better results from the evga even though you save over $30? I can get the X800XL for 299 and I wouldn't have to pay for shipping, so which would be the best deal?

Remember, for the most part you get what you pay for.

I wasn't willing to shell out over $200US for a video card, so I got the XFX 6800NU for $150 AR. Unlocked the pipes no problem, stuck on a Zalman 700cu because the fan sounds like a hovering Harrier.

It's a good card, not great. If you're not looking for super high res on the newest games then you'll be happy with it. I'd actually suggest getting something like that now, and then in about 6 months to a year save up for a new PCI-E motherboard and vid card. A 7800 GT + motherboard will be around $500CA at that point.

Just go into Futureshop and pick up the x800xl for $299, that's what I did... it doesn't overclock well, but it's a great card for the price. I managed to get an additional 12% out of mine, I was lucky. Still, it's a solid card. If you want to be wowed get a 7800 or 1800... if you want a good card get the x800xl.

word is not much of any assistance. The GPU yield is simply not robust enough to give any more output.

The fastest cards available for AGP are the x850XT-PE and the 6800Ultra. the 6800U is hard to locate and very expensive. You could get a 6800GT and overclock it some and achieve basically what an Ultra would give. In my opinion I like the 6800GT simply because the headroom for overclocking is good. Anything you buy in the high end of the AGP selection will run everything and anything you want to run game wise at the present time. Next year it will probably be time to upgrade the entire system for me, but for now I have a 6800GT and it's great for everything I play. The ATI card is slightly more expensive than a 6800, but it does play DirectX games a bit better than the 6800.

its either a x800xt, or a 6800gt.

those are the best agp cards available.

i have a x800xl, its no x800xt, but its pretty damn nice. i got mine for $250 retail at compusa about 6 months ago. was a good sale. :)

Man, forget the GTO. ATI are doing a special on the X800XT All-in-Wonder. Look around at pricewatch.com, its around $320.

The AIW is the only X800XT model that comes in AGP. 16pipes, 256mb and is the highest performing AGP after the X850XT.

Besides the performance, its a much improved multimedia card over previous AIWs. This is a STEAL!

Oh, heres a review of the card:

No offense, but the only suggestion really worth considering is buying a used 6800gt, ultra, x800xt or x850xt for "cheap"... (<$200 if possible). You have to consider what you can get on the PCI-E side of things since the 7800gt that performs about 2x as fast as a 6800gt or x800xt can easily be found for ~$315-330 + games like COD2, so if you are stuck with agp, at least find something of comparable value -- i.e. NOT buying an x800xt for $320 since you are paying the same amount for something half as good...

Basically, if you are stuck with an AGP system right now (I am too) and you don't want to throw good money at older technology (6800, x800...) you pretty much have to either find a great deal on AGP cards or wait until you can afford to completely upgrade your system to pci-e. If you really want to waste your money go ahead and pay $300 for an AGP card, but it isn't worth it... (if you bought a socket 754 system you are screwed if you thought it would make a good gaming system.)

there is no such thing as an x800gto2 agp. they are pci-e only.

the PC Club up the street has them in stock, the sales dude told me it was a GTO2 any ways, might have been the regular GTO dunno
