New AGP Video Card or upgrade MoBo to PCIe ?

How does a PCIe 7600GT perform compared to an AGP 7800GS ?

ATM, the AGP 7800GS costs about the same compared to upgrading my MoBo and a PCIe 7600GT - assuming all other components are compatible. The other option is to wait and see what happens.

My video card ( specs in signature ) is the bottleneck. I want to enjoy some modern games ( like Oblivion ) at mid to high graphics settings. If I upgrade to a faster AGP video card, this will be the last/only video card upgrade for that system. Most high-end/PCIe cards have higher power requirements than my 350w psu.

NewEgg.com prices that may include rebates and shipping:

eVGA Geforce 6600GT $119 good value, but too slow
eVGA Geforce 6800GS $225 fast, but priced a little high
eVGA Geforce 7800GS $284 lowest priced 7800gs with lowest stock settings

PCIe MoBo MSI K8N Neo4 $116 nice features, my current ram, cpu should be compatible
PCIe eVGA Geforce 7600GT $180 ? lowest priced 7600gt, with lowest stock settings

Sorry to beat a dead horse here?neigh

The 7800gs is just a few fps quicker than the 7600gt. But I new MB lets you upgrade to an even better video card later, so it may be the best solution.

How does a PCIe 7600GT $189 perform compared to an AGP 7800GS $289 ?

The pixel fill rate is 6000 to 4480 (reference card speeds) in favor of the 7800GS:

To ask it another way, does the 7800GS perform $100 better ?
