New AGP card

A family member wants to start playing World Of Warcraft. They only have an Athlon 2400+ with 768MB ram and onboard video.

I took the BFG 6800OC out of my Shuttle (Athlon 3000+, 1mb ram) computer and loaded up World Of Warcraft on their system and it ran suprisingly well.

I plan on giving them the 6800OC but I need to replace the video card in my Shuttle. I am an occasional gamer who only plays WoW, CS: Source, and CS: DoD.

My 6800OC ran fine and I do not want to spend over $150. Should I just buy another 6800OC or should I move to a 7600GS? Since I have a Shuttle and only a 250w power supply, does the 7 series require more power? My 6800OC never gave me any power problems in my Shuttle.

Maybe I should just keep the 6800OC in my Shuttle and buy them a new video card?

Any opinions?

A 7600GS should be as fast as your 6800OC while consuming less power. It would be abit smaller as well. (in terms of PCB length)

I've never owned an ATI card, only Nvidia. No good reason I guess. I use ATI laptops at work and I really don't care for the ATI control panels.

All the benchmarks that I've seen show the 6800 beating out the 7600 gs. I am not sure which flavor the BFG 6800 OC is. I know it is not an Ultra or a GT. Would it be similar to the XT?

Right now if you have the cash the x1950pro AGP is the best agp card out.

Thanks for the suggestion but thats a little out of my budget.

I was really happy with my 6800OC with the games I play. Since I gave the card away, I just planned on buying another 6800OC.

I thought since I was buying a new card, maybe I should move up to the 7 series. The 7600gs is the same price as the 6800OC.

I am not looking for an upgrade, just a similar performing video card.

I will move to PCI-Express when I upgrade my system in the summer/fall.

I am leaning towards the Gigabyte 7600GS. It is a fanless card and I do some audio production. The 6800OC was rather noisy and this would be a nice feature. I'm just hoping it will give the same performance as the 6800OC.

Thanks!

The 7600GS shoud run as fast as a vanilla 6800, but since the one you own is overclocked, you should then get the 7600GS and overclocked, or buy it pre overclocked, or go to the 7600GT which is a bit faster than the 6800 Ultra.

Thanks for all of the responses. I decided to spend a little more and go with an XFX 7600GT AGP. I didn't want to get the 7600GS and then find out it was actually slower than my 6800 OC.

I picked it up at Newegg and should be getting it in a couple of days. It sucks that the PCI-E is much much cheaper for the same card. :(

Good choice & you should be pleased ... the GT is about the same performance as a 6800 Ultra but will run a lot cooler & quieter.
