I just bought an Acer Timeline laptop and when I turned it on for the first time the display would not come on although I could see the backlight come on. It would work with an external monitor. After several hours of being on and plugged in the display started working. I bought it from newegg and Already got an RMA. So now I am trying to figure out what to do. My theory is that it got really cold in shipping and something has to warm up. I also called Acer Tech Support and they wanted me to send it to them for warrantee. If I send it back to newegg or Acer they are going to think I am nuts.

Have Acer Tech Support send you an email to confirm their RMA decision and do it. You can't send it with out a RMA number. But, that should be done.

Well they appear to be out of that particular model. What happens if they turn the thing on and it works fine? Do they forward these things to Acer or what?

I would do what ever Acer suggests, and get it from them in writing. If they will give you a RMA, don't worry about Newegg. You are then dealing with a higher authority.

If Acer says to return it to Newegg, get that in writing and enclose it with a Newegg RMA and don't worry about what happens if it works when they turn it on.

If you require that particular model, then it may have to be back ordered. In view of that, the best choice is direct to Acer if they will honor that.

You might also try complete system restore if you can get it on. You should have that capability on the HDD.
