Heres what I got:

MSI K8N Neo Platinum, 1.25B bios installed
3200+ Clawhammer CG stepping
OCZ 3700 Gold Rev 2 2 x 512MB
OCZ 520W Powerstream PSU
Alpha 8150 HS w/hi speed sunon fan

I started out today getting everything installed and making sure things were in order. This is when I found out the MSI board doesnt exactly report temps accurately. Mines reading in the 60-75C range. No, it is not really running that hot....at that temp the HS would be cooking...its barely warm to the touch.

So I started out OC'ing a lil by little. First obstacle was the HT at 4X. SO I backed it down. Then I ran into a wall at 225mhz and it became unstable. No big deal I thought, I wasnt hoping to get a huge OC out of it anyways. Then ram became an issue, more like having two sticks was an issue. This is when I learned there are alot more things on a A64 to tweak than my former i875 chipset board for intel.

Well after installing the new bios and tinkering around wtih things, I ended up being able to do 2.25Ghz with HT set at 4X and the ram at 1:1. I couldnt have both sticks in there at the same time and still be stable. I was able to run at 2.33Ghz, but it wasnt quite stable enough for my liking. I have been using 1.6V for the core voltage, but did experiment with it at 1.65V. Didnt see much or any improvement in stability at 2.33Ghz. Tried higher, but it bombed out during the initialization of USB (appeared to be about that time anyways)

Right now I think there are probably two things holding me back from going any further. The bios and the ram. The bios is a beta version and there is supposedly another version out there floating around that fixed the temp issue some and improved OC'ing. I also need a recommendation for a good single 1GB stick of ram that can do fast timings at low speeds, and run at higher speeds with relaxed timings. Any recommendations here? Looks to be a little thin for choices in the single 1Gb stick market.

hi welcome to AT first of all :)

second...

do you have the option of setting the command rate to 2T in the bios?

the CG revision chips have better memory controllers and allow for you to run 2x 512 sticks of ram which was very difficult to do with the C0 stepping chips (well at least at higher fsbs....

if you do not have the command rate option in your bios, there is a program called A64 tweaker that allows you to but only in windows.

try that out first and then get back and let us know! :)

Okay, downloaded the new beta bios thats floating around - unofficial. Looks like Im able to get both sticks in at 225mhz FSB. 233mhz FSB improved, still not rock stable yet. Temp has been fixed. Reporting 127 F at full load with 1.62-1.63V on the core.

Also theres something about a NV/ATi speedup for graphics cards...Im going to check that out. Evidently you have to hold a certain key combo while entering a part of the bios for it to be displayed.

Another new bios released. This is when I discovered something by accident.

I can make 225 rock stable with the latest official bios release. However, this is only when I run the ram at cas 3.0 instead of the rated 2.5. I'll keep testing things out, but it looks like ram is just not holding up well in this board. For what its worth, there is a huge list of ram that does not work well/properly in the MSI K8N Neo board on their forum site.

Right off the bat, MSI K8N is a crappy board. I have heard of a lot of people had a lot of problems with it.
I got my 3000+ up to 2.4 stable, and the USB ports started going, as well as the temp sensor when i flashed to 1.3 beta.

Try scaling down the ram timings, that may be the wall you're hitting.
