Looksie for yourself. Info seems to come from this chinese ? website: http://bbs.chiphell.com/viewth...d=14253&extra=page%3D1 I don't know how to use google to translate, perhaps someone else ?

- Codenamed G100
- 65nm process
- 256 shader processors
- 780MHz core clock
- 3200MHz memory clock
- 512-bit memory width
- 2048MB (256X8) GDDR5 chips
- GDDR5 @ 0.25-0.5ns
- Dual DVI-out
- Supports DX 10.1, VP3
- 15-25% lower TDP than 8800GTS

To me, this looks like the same architecture being reused, with minor improvements, and simply with more horsepower added to it in the way of more shaderpower, memory bandwith and memory. I wonder at what resolutions they expect us to play though, because the 8800gtx only really wins out from a 8800gts 512mb at 1920*1080 with maximum AA etc.

I'm not so sure about that.... plus, it's no longer called the G100. It's just on a forum, no sources, and not called the D9E.... I don't know...

I would think more on the lines of 192 SP, and 1024MB DDR4, 2400MHz Memory Clock.

Yeah same here, hence I called it insane specs. They seem to be rather on the high side.

That's pretty crazy and definately doesn't sound true. The only way I could imagine something like that is if G100 were made up of 3-4 die instead of 1. G92 is already over 300mm^2 with 128SP, imagine what a 256SP part would be. 500-600mm^2?

Also, GDDR5 memory? I've heard about it coming but I doubt nVidia would make the jump from GDDR3->GDDR5, especially before anyone else. nVidia hasn't been big about moving past GDDR3.

Hopefully they'll jump to the energy efficiency bandwagon..

..can't wait to upgrade my 9800XT to 9800GT!

With 256 unified shaders and 512bit memory interfeace which must take up double the space, it sounds WAY too good to be true. Unless they want a monolithic godzilla sized GPU die i think the rumor is definitely false.

But from the look of things the next fen DX10.1 geforce 9 are indeed coming soon during feb march time period.

The 9600GT might be coming first according to expreview.

Nvidia seem to be realiable on the new high end releases

I think we can guess a few things

core clock, im thinking something around 750mhz the clockspeeds actually went down from the 7900gtx to the 8800gtx but that was due to double the amount of transistors because of dx10 and sm4.0 nvidia wont be adding many new features this time around the only thing i can think of its dx10.1

shaders im guessing around 192sp, thats 1.5x the amount of the 8800gtx

memory clock i dont think the memory clock will be much above 2ghz, looking at previous releases 6800u to 7800gtx and 7900gtx to 8800gtx the memory didnt increase that much, and atm the memory clock is not holding cards back for example when overclocking the 8800gt increasing the memory speeds hardly increase performace at all

bus: a full blown 512bit would be the most likely

Those specs look like they were made up to make a dream card.

Even if they were derived by slapping two G92 cards onto one PCB and the specs were "doubled" as a result, the TDP figure looks suspicious as such a card would be a furnace, especially on 65 nm.

Do you guys remember when Nvidia introduced the G71? Compared to G70, the G71 had drastically reduced the number of transistors. G70 was a 302 million transistor part on 110nm. G71 was a 278 million transistor part on 90nm. A reduction of 24 million transistors.
Maybe they can accomplish the same with "G100". More refined engineering, improvement on the 65nm process, or maybe even 55 or 45nm.
Either way, it still should be a rather large die in the neighborhood of 1.2 to 1.5 billion transistors. A 512 bit memory controller would contribute largely. And doubling the shaders? yeouch....
I honestly don't know what to make of these supposed specs. They seem just about impossible, at least for the next two years.

Sounds like dual card specs to me. Maybe the 15-25% lower TDP than the 8800GTS refers to the G80 based GTS? It might be true if that's the case.

But what if the memory bus was not 512bit and the gpu could still produce enormous memory bandwidth through GDDR5 clocks? :Q ;) I don't think nVIDIA will have a problem using GDDR5 if they are to be produced at mass numbers and give good "yields"..GDDR5 can hit from rumours 2.2-2.5GHz ;)
Besides that G92 showed us that the "refinements" in 256bit bus was enough to give better results than its G80 based 320bit predecessor.

I have a feeling G100 would be a beast while keeping the chip @ acceptable size..I'm also cautious though with these specs.. Some of them seem to be true while others a big pile of crap..

We should see a G92 based product @ Q1 2008 though. G100 won't be here before the end of the summer if you ask me..

Seems like I remember exaggerated specs being released before the g80 core hit the streets. We all know what happened after that.

I don't think we'll see 512 bit VRAM if it's a single card.

In fact I don't think it'll have much more bandwidth than a 8800 Ultra, if at all.
