Actually they have free shipping on that card, although I am not sure if that is the case with the trade in option.

I did it two years ago and sent them an ancient Trident 1 MB VGA card with no problems.

lol that is awesome. i wish i kept all my crappy video cards from the last few years... i wonder what they do with them

Let's see, the cheapest video card I can find on egay is this S3 Virge GX 2MB PCI video card for $1.99 buy it now, plus $5.99 shipping:

link

So, total price is $8. Good enough for this trade-in deal.

Ok,.. $299.00 and then you get a $50.00 trade in for any POS video card = $249.00
Then there is shipping cost of the new card of $15.00 = $264.00
Purchase POS video card $6.00+ =$270.00
Send your POS video card to them $15.00 = $285.00
Wait for your trade in check for (place time amount here)

Big fat hassle = ?

Buy Video Card from Newegg = Price: $298.00 NO B/S and get card fast
$13.00 difference
No Brainer

I totally agree. If the card was shipped free then maybe... but indeed it seems too much of a hassle.

What should I do with my old card?
You will receive instructions on how to return your current ATI or other manufactures graphics card via a confirmation email once your online trade-up order is completed.

PLEASE NOTE: If ATI has not received your old graphics card within 10 business days of the date of receipt of your new ATI board, we will not be able to credit you the security deposit.

When you click on the link above, look to the right. There is a thing for $20 rebate/price drop/free shipping with an explanation of what applies to what. The 9800 pro receives the price drop (to $299) and free shipping.

The $20 rebate is to buy, not the trade in program. It's listed as $399 there, with free shipping.
Or at least that's how I read it.

If you live in the SF Bay Area, a good place for buying a POS video card is Weird Stuff Warehouse on Central Expressway in Sunnyvale. They have boxes and boxes of POS stuff. An example is this video card:

But if you go there in person, you should be able to find something even cheaper. This will make it worth the while for the ATI trade in program because you don't need to pay shipping for the POS card.

I am not talking about the rebate. The section is for Rebates/Price Drops/Free Shipping. It lists which cards qualify for what. The 9800pro qualifies for price drop (that is how they get the $299) and free shipping. This is something other than the trade in. The only question is will they give you free shipping with the trade in offer. Do you get it now?

Thanks for the "heads up". I think I'll snag a new 9800 Pro through this deal as a Christmas present to myself. 😀

I do have a old, full length PCI, 2mb STB Virge something kicking around from the old PPro system...heh.

🙂

I placed an order. They took 8 days to act on it, and customer service doesn't seem to exist. The number is always busy, and the one time I got through to their system, I was put on hold in a queue for 10+ minutes before giving up. This is a real hassle, but may be fine if you're patient. Just a warning.
