New 9600xt freezes computer after starting up a game.

I just bought a 9600xt from a new user, it had been used before. I only have 2 games so my tests may be limited, but the game freezes my computer after 3-4 minutes of play.

Everything starts up fine, get into the game..yadda yadda. Then the comp becomes frozen but the audio keeps repeating the last sound bite. (i.e. if it was a gun shot, it just keeps repeating the same shot over and over again) Ctl+Alt+Dlt doesnt do anything so I end up having to restart the machine.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions. TIA

Basic stuff,

Update drivers and see if your problems go away. Sometimes it is a hardware crash like that. Also check your game manual, the electrnic readme one to see if 9600xt has issues with the game.

What games? 9600series has known issues with Call of Duty i know for sure.

Damit, those are the 2 games I have.

Call of Duty & the expansion....updating the drivers right now.

Updated the drivers and still experiencing the same problem after 3 minutes of play. Something different though, when my computer turns on I get a cli.exe & CLI.exe error. Quick google search says this maybe b/c of the new catalyst drivers. It also wont allow me to open up ATI's Catalyst Control Center...same CLI.exe error.
