New 92mm fans sound like a 747

These things are loud even on lowest setting on my Thermaltake fan controller. Is there a way to make them even more quiet? I bought a Zalman,DFI NF4 Ultra-D and a 3000+ hoping to have a fairly quiet slightly o/ced PC. These fans defeat the purpose.

BTW I havent got my stuff yet.

You can rig 12v fans for 7v by connecting the red wire on the power supply lead to the -12v wire on the fan (you must only connect +12v and +5v psu wires to the +12v and -12v wires on the fan) . I've done it many times (doing it right now) without problems, but the fan tach probably won't work.

Loud..lol. Get a fan controller. Then, your fan will only sound like a 747 when it stars up.

don't have a -5 on my Enermax dual rail PSU I don't think?

On your 4-pin molex connectors, the yellow is +12, the two blacks are negatives, and the red is +5. Just use the red +5 as a negative on the molex, and connect it to the black wire on the fan. I use two pieces of wire to connect yellow to yellow and red to black.

If you're already undervolted them and still aren't satisfied with the results, there isn't much you can do. There are a few brands that are quiet. So you might just have to either live with it or buy new ones. Don't feel too bad about buying replacements though. I either give away fans that I don't like or add them to my collection. 😉

I have a similar fan in my power supply. link
After installing that along with an 80mm Panaflo H1A it was almost silent sitting on my bench.
Keep in mind my PS (Antec True430) is probably giving them about 5v.

Are you getting bearing noise? or vibrations resonating from contact with your case?

k I hooked the black wire on the fan to a black on the PSU and the red to the red(5+) on the power supply. Its much quieter now. Can this hurt my PSU or anything else for that matter?

Don't worry 'bout it. You'll be fine @ 5V. Unless temps become a concern.
If they do, wire it @ 7V.

What he said. 😉

what does the -5 do in a PSU? As these newer PSU's doesnt seem to have one? So running a 12v fan on the 5+ won't put any stress on the PSU or anything else? Will just use the amps on the 5+ instead of the 12+?

If there a fan controller thats out there that will limit these fans to 5v and lower if I choose to have them that low?
