New 8600GT looks hazy

I just installed a EVGA 8600GT card. Uninstalled the old drivers in safe mode and used driver sweeper to clean up the rest.

I then went to nvidia.com and installed the latest driver for this card. 182.50 April 02,2009 for Windows XP, WHQL certified.

I didn't have this problem with my older 7600GT and nothing has changed since.

The screen is just not sharp and it looks hazy. I have all my previous settings etc...

any idea what's going on?

Is there any way you could post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Do you have an LCD monitor? I am guessing the settings somehow got "reset" during your installation and you might want to double check that you are running in the monitors native resolution.

We are going to need more details if we want to help you more, Monitor/Resolution/Refresh Rate/LCD Scaling if any.

forgot all about this.

write now it's not as hazy but it's not sharp either. This was a replacement card for my 7600GT which I RMA'd to evga. I just want to make sure it's working properly.

The other problem I'm having is when I ply Unreal tournament 99, my frame rate drops to 6-7fps after playing a while 1hr or so. This never happened with on board or any other card.

I run it at 1280x1024, 32 bit color, 60hz refresh rate (only supported rate on my Sony lcd from 3-4 years ago).

So not sure wth is going on. Is there any graphic card tests I can run?

thanks 🙂

You can try OCCT, which has a GPU test.

Does your framerate stay at 6-7 after it drops?

You might want to use Rivatuner to monitor you temps, fanspeed, and clock speed during gaming.

I installed OCCT but not sure what I'm looking for.

The frame rate stay at 4-7 frames but if I exit the game and restart it, then it's fine.

It's not as hazy as it used to be, it's just not very sharp.

I went through nvidias monitor tuning thingy and that helped a little with getting the gamma levels etc... corrected.
