New 7900GTX craps out when exiting Doom 3

I honestly don't think it's heat related, because the game runs fine, so does Oblivion and various other games that should generate quite a bit of heat... plus I've never seen the temp go over 60. Anyway... when I exit Doom 3, the screen flashes and the light on the monitor flashes like it's losing it's signal. Searched Google for it but couldn't find anything that described the problem I'm having. Anyone know of a solution?

Try closing down the nvsvc32 program that runs in the background. I'm not even sure what it's for, but was getting this problem in some old games until I stopped running it.

Tried that, no change. Also tried plugging the monitor into the other port, also didn't help.

Now it craps out in everything. God dammit... now I have to RMA it and be without a video card for a week again... don't they test this ****** ****** before sending it out?

Always heard Doom 3 was a scary game as it kills video cards. :beer:

They really don't fully test video cards, even high end ones. All this stuff is made as cheaply as possible because consumer electronics are all about low prices. Video cards are all made overseas I'm sure and they probably undergo some sort of very short test that comes nowhere near to fully stressing the card.

i had the same problem, just after I bought the 7900gtx. I would boot the system, it ran for hours, then, after a reboot all my fans would start to blow at 100% and the monitor entered standby just as it didn't get any signal from the video card.
i also suspected the 7900gtx to have a fault in there, as it booted once and started artifacting while in BIOS.
the problem for me was the PSU. i had thermaltake 400W PSU that handled my system great, when I had just 2 HDDs, 7800GTX and A64 3200+.
bought new enermax 620W PSU, didn't have a problem since.

I have an Antec TruePower 550 and checked the 12 and 5 volt rails during all phases of operation (boot up, idle, intense gaming) with a DVOM and it's always 12.07 and 5.06 respectively. I wouldn't be surpised if it was the power supply, since Antec's quality control has gone down the shitter recently, but you can bet I'll be RMAing this video card... AND will attempt to get them to pay the cost of shipping the old one back to them.

yap, do so. it might be the card. mine works perfectly now, after the PSU upgrade. get a new card, see if you get the same problem. if so, upgrade the PSU cause i think it's not the volts, but the amps that cause the problem.
does your antec have a special PCI-E cable? or you're using 2 molex to one PCI-E adapter?

Sure you can blame the video card or powersupplies, but do you have enough case airflow? These cards run HOT so having adequate air-flow for good cooling is necessary for high-end equipment.

Try playing Doom 3 or another game that it craps out on WITHOUT antialiasing. I'm having the same problem you are with my 7900GT, I've figured out it only happens when antialiasing is enabled.

Almost identicle problem to 1 of the ones that my son experiences with the 7900GTX.

Could be a Direct Access problem perhaps (direct access is a driver feature that allows the driver to directly adjust your display).

Try a driver without Direct Access (most modded drivers) or 81.98.

You can tell if the driver has direct access active since there will be an entry in the control panel menu (working from the old CP here) of "null - " + the model of your monitor. It appears below "Desktop Management" for me if enabled in the driver.

Make sure to use Driver Cleaner Pro to unisntall your current ones (in safe mode, after you uninstalled them in the regular device manager)
