New 7900GT Question: Is my Mem core supposed to read 750MHz?

Is this normal? I know that for some new cards you multiply th mem by 2 but I wanted to be sure since my old 6600GT read 1000MHz all the time as opposed to 500MHz.

it's ddr memory so the effective speed is double the ones reported.
