New 5870 installed, native resolution not working.

I just installed my 5870 using Catalyst 10.2. After a few bumps along the way I have it up and running. The only real pressing problem is that I cannot get 1920x1200 resolution to work. The option is there, but when I choose it I get an 'Out of Range' message on my display. 640x480 all the way through 1920x1080 work.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Catalyst.

I had no problems with my 4870 running 1920x1200. Does anyone have any ideas?
 
wow that's odd.. could it be something with the refresh rate that it is assigning to 1920x1200?

i'm not familiar with ATI drivers, but i know with nvidia there's inf files which defines all the resolutions and refresh rates, might be something to look at if ATI has that. or maybe trying rivatuner to force things.
 
What Monitor?

IIRC there were problems in the past with certain monitors and ATI cards not working correctly due to some DVI compliance issue. It was around the 3800 series IIRC, not sure if it was fixed though :X
 
Do you have a disc with monitor driver on it?
Weird that it happens for the desktop, but I've had games not play nice until I install the monitor driver.
 
can you get 1920x1200 using a dsub connection? i remember my mother's 2610nw had issues w/ the dvi but not the dsub.

*edit - Not fixed, it was still at 1680x1050. :/

That seems to have worked, though not exactly as it was supposed to work. CCC sees the monitor, and shows it's proper settings as 1920x1200 @ 62Hz, which I believe is what it's supposed to be set too. I could have sworn the 4870 saw 62Hz and worked with that as well, but I'm not reinstalling it to find out. 😉 I set it to 60Hz and can get 1920x1200 now.

that's really weird that your monitor would have a 62Hz refresh rate. It's probably best you set it to 60 Hz anyways for vsync issues as well as TV shows.
 
that is a Hz problem, refresh rate.

Have you tried installing monitor drivers ?

You should be @ 1920x1200@32 60hz if you have a LCD. Let us know
 
Ok, I think the refresh rate is the issue... when I choose 1920x1200 no matter what 62Hz is refresh rate that is selected. When I chose 60Hz, than the resolution changes. CCC won't let me choose both 60Hz and 1920x1200.

Unfortunately Westinghouse does not have a driver and I don't have the CD any longer. Device manager shows the display as a Generic PnP display, CCC sees the monitor by name. But, I'll see if I can find a driver for the display, something better than the generic PnP device shown in device manager.

*edit - Looks like the problem might be more to do with the monitor than the video card driver.

< sigh > Worst case I may use VGA instead of HDMI, though if possible I'd like to avoid that.

Went over to a VGA cable (this monitor only has HDMI and VGA, no DVI) and 1920x1200 @ 60Hz is no problem. I tend to believe this is more an issue with the monitor as I'm seeing this here and there as I search the net.

So, I really wish that HDMI worked as I feel VGA is a bit of a band aid, but it's functional for now. I just figured I'd update this incase anyone runs into a similar issue and does a search.
 
Can you use something like Powerstrip to override the EDID and adjust the supported refresh rates the monitor reports? Or use RivaTuner to force the video card to use 60Hz instead of 62Hz?

I tried to use Power Strip, I didn't have any luck. But I'm not entirely sure it's because I was doing something wrong in the software or because it wouldnt' allow it over HDMI either.
