When will these 512 cards be coming out? Sometime around Dec. or the holiday season im guessing. How much will they be costing?

my bet is that you will see X300 and 5200 like cards with 512mb of ram before you see the 6800 ultra level cards with it.

LOL, so true

However I'm not all that excited about 512MB cards though (as I don't think they're all that necessary vs current 256 models, heck, 256 is just now the high end standard), I'm looking far more forward to seeing nVidia's SLI and Alienware's Array solutions

silly Schadenfroh, the next cards with 512 will not be the x300 or the 5200, it will be the X350 and the 5250 ;)

Well nobody can do nothing else than just speculate regarding pricing/performance.
Anyway some say that the fall refreshes of NV40 / R420 might came with 512mb. Who knows? If they don't as you can understand then you'll have to wait till the next gen gpus are out.
But my guess is that it won't be such a great benefit (by itself) judging from what the past teached us.
Only DIII is supposed to need the 512mb for ultra(uncompressed) textures but again nobody knows if you'll notice any difference in IQ or worthmentioning differences in perf.
If you are waiting for just 512mb then IMHO it's just not worth it.

LOL. That's what I was just thinking - "I hope that they make a 512MB fx5200 model in PCI - I could throw a couple of them in my rig to use for a RAMdisk."

Nothing like some extra scratchpad RAM to use for a pagefile/RAMdisk/whatever.

Damn I wonder what will happen to prices on 512 models, they're already too expensive. 256mb is just starting to really become somewhat useful. Most mainstream games are very happy with 128 and should be for a while longer. New compression algorithms also push back the need for more ram.

except the fact that both cards have to load all the textures, so you really don't get anywhere near double the ram.
