New (4th Gen) Nano Dock?

These are two in a series of dumb questions about iPods (See my other threads in this section):

1. Is there a dock for the new (4th gen) Nanos? I see docks that say they are for the 1st or 2nd gen Nanos, though the related pictures seem to imply they will work with a 4th gen, but I have not seen one that actually says it if for the 4th gen.

I simply do not know enough about the history of the Nanos to know if something designed for the 1st or 2nd gen will work for the 4th gen Nanos.

2. Also, do they make a combination 4th gen case cover that also attaches to/detaches from an armband, or do you have to buy two separate items such that you have to remove the Nano from the armband contraption and slip it into a different case if you want to carry it around not on an armband? (Does that make sense?)

Thank you for your indulgence.

all your older chargers and your expensive docking stations are close to useless now, as it won't charge the damn thing anymore.

Based on that article, it is not entirely clear if the issue was with ipods being intolerant of power surges (which was what the connecter change was for) or if certain older docks were not correctly preventing power surges and the like from getting to the ipod. The ipod power requirements at the connector are incredible simple. 5v at .5A. That is the power provided by a USB 2.0 port and that is the requirement of the connector. If the docks were either over-volting or over-amping the ipod then it is the docks fault and you are better off getting a new one rather than risking the possibility of it shorting out your multiple hundred dollar player.

God forbid a company take steps to ensure that its new generation of devices will not be affected by the same problems as the previous generation. Apple is not perfect, I am not trying to imply that, but to solely blame them is a cop-out. The fault lies with both companies. Apple for not having these power management features in the ipods to begin with, and the dock companies for skimping on the design such that it allowed the power issues to reach the ipod. These sound docks have 2 jobs to do... get music from the ipod, and give power to the ipod. The ipod uses the USB spec for charging, so it is not like they are doing voodoo magic.

i dont blame you. my ipod touch didnt work with my fm transmitter at all...well it transmitted just fine, but it simply would not charge. i ended up buying a 2nd generation ipod touch compatible one.

its crappy how they did this move. they should have made it totally usb after they finally killed off firewire support a while back.

why thats stupid because then the manufactures would have to put DAC's in there products and things to de-code video ect... right now the iPod does all the "work" but if there was only a usb port then the "product" would be doing all of the work while the iPod acted as a flash drive

I guess that begs the question as to whether there is a 4th gen Nano dock or has Apple killed that and expect everyone to buy a "universal" dock for $50?

Question still pending...
