Question New 4K gaming monitor broke. Need a recommendation for a replacement.

I only had my 27" ASUS 4K monitor for about a year when it just stopped working a few days ago. ASUS is an absolute nightmare to deal with and they're telling me my monitor isn't qualified for repair or replacement so I'm looking for a new one but there's so many different aspects to monitors that I'm still not sure what's what. I'm currently working out of town for a few more weeks so if I could get a few recommendations it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for another 27".

Given the trend of lower quality products coming from the big names I've encountered lately, I'm hesitant to just pick out a new one and try it out.

What's wrong with it? Does not turn on? If yes, this is most likely due to failing electrolytic capacitors on the DC supply section of the PCB. Relatively easy and quite cheap to fix it yourself. At least try.

It turns on, but there's no picture. As in, the power button lights up, but that's it. If this can be fixed, I'll definitely look into it because dealing with ASUS has been the worst customer service experience I've had in many many years.

Gamers Nexus made several videos on Asus and their warranty policies. Worth watching.

And never buying Asus products, regardless of how good they are.

This is a good tread. I almost bought a fancy expensive asus router last month. But I cheaped out and bought a used netgear which seems to work just fine.

I wonder if asus was always this crappy or recently deteriorated as many other famous brands have done.

I noticed this during the Covid years. Quite a few horror stories here. I still haven't quit them though, because they have been good to me during this time. I just bought one of their QD-OLED 4K monitors during the week before black Friday. Best Buy had it for just under a grand, and I couldn't say no. Hopefully it won't bite me in the butt.

3 pc's in the house and all have Asus boards. 1 6th gen ROG and 2 10th gen Prime.
But I have to reboot one of the Primes (has an 11th gen i7) at times to get the HDMI port to pass sound. Suuuucks.

I still have an old Asus 23", 1080p monitor on a spare system, bought around 2011 and used years as part of a multi-monitor setup before retired to spare system use.

I agree that if you can't get warranty support for it, might as well pop the back cover off and take a look... IF you can solder.

Another thing to try first, is shine a strong flashlight at it, at an angle when it's on. If you see an unlit image then it's a backlight problem.

I think the QC and tech complexities of modern monitors and TVs have now made it worth getting an extended warranty for anything over ~ $250, especially if it's a B-list or lower tier brand.

It's been two weeks and I'm still fighting their automated bullshit system. Thanks for all the responses so far. I haven't opened it up just yet, but I'll try the flashlight trick. I looked for a replacement during black Friday and cyber Monday and the "sales" were a joke.

While this doesn't help STG at all, I've really made it a point to either buy used or refurbished.

Bathtub failure curve and all that for used parts.

And for refurb... Well whatever was going to break already broke and got replaced...

I'm happy with a best buy refurb 4K TV I got after the Superbowl, when the cretins are done watching the game and want a refund for something they couldn't afford. :)

However I would never buy used or refurb for a 2nd or 3rd tier brand if you don't know how long it was used. I've bought a couple TVs (new) that didn't last 2 years and were just money down the toilet compared to paying more for a top tier brand that lasted a lot longer than the price:lifespan ratio of the lesser brands. Those two were Seiki and Hisense.
