New 4K Build - Wait for Vega?

Hi everyone,

Hoping for everyone's advice on a new 4k build. I was waiting for Vega, but with the delay no longer sure if it makes sense as my old 6950 just died.

The Ryzen thread seems to have some mixed opinions. Do people expect Vega to apply significant pressure, or would a GTX 1080 be a safe bet even now?

Given my my DOA, I'm thinking of either just making an entirely new build now (my PC is from 2012) or buying a cheap (<70$) GPU now and then waiting for Vega or maybe even Volta.

Thoughts?

4k build = 1080ti

The regular 1080 can't keep all games above 60 FPS @ 4k. The 1080ti can.

Also, it is unlikely that Vega will match its performance. It's possible, I guess. But that would be one very big jump in performance.

Do you foresee Vega placing pressure on 1080Ti pricing?

It depends how competitive it is. But you can get a 1080ti for around $630 now. I've seen a few posts on various models over at Slickdeals. I know a lot of people were talking how the RX 480 would affect 1070 and 1080 pricing, and that never happened since the performance wasn't close enough. It did affect 1060 pricing some though. I guess it depends if you want to wait until late 2017 to see how Vega pans out, or you can get a 1080ti and game right now at 4k.

Looks like Vega wont be competing any where close to Ti, if you have to buy, don't wait for vega hoping it will match Ti.
