New 3.2 Setup

Updated the thread to reflect some new additions to my setup. It's been amazing for mixed music/movie use!

-Receiver: Marantz 1403 (inexpensive receiver until all the 4K stuff is sorted-out, has pre-outs, and comes with GREAT music/sound quality for the price!
-Phono Pre-amp: Emotiva XPS-1
-Turntable: Technics SL-1200MK2 w/ new tonearm, resurfaced platter and painted deck (in white). RCA mod. *NEW*
-Amp(s): 2x Emotiva XPA-1L (switchable between class A and A/B operation) for front R/L
-Front L/R Towers: Pair of Def Tech STS Mythos Towers with LFE connected (integrated 300w sub in each tower) set as full-range with 80hz crossover
-Center: Def Tech Mythos 9
-Sub: SVS PC-2000 *NEW*

Planning to pick up (4) more Mythos 9 speakers for Surround R/L and Back Surround R/L + XPA-5 Amp to power surrounds. Also planning to replace the receiver to a 'true' HDCP 2.2/HDMI 2.1 Marantz this year sometime...

Thoughts or suggestions? For the amount of sound and clarity, I appreciate the small footprint due to my urban setup where space is a premium. The SVS sub is AMAZING!

Audiophile territory.

All this superb audio equipment and you're going to hook up a turntable to it?

Yap, audiophile territory.

LOL, well my wife's all-in-one turntable thing died this year and I wanted to get her something better. There is something satisfying about playing a vinyl record vs. digital audio or a CD. It adds to the experience a little. 🙂

I do have a PS3 and Xbox One connected as well for CDs and movies and the sort. Didn't want to invest in a standalone DAC since the pre-amp I want will have a better built-in DAC than I could get for less then about $300-400 anyway. This gets me by until then. (there also is a workaround for FLAC audio lossless on the PS3 that I wanted to give a whirl as well)

The SL-1200 MK2 is a good choice for the turntable. Sturdy, reliable, swappable headshells. Lots of parts available (if needed). But try to avoid buying one that was beat to death by a DJ.

Definitely. Probably will keep an eye on Audiogon for a nice one kept for listening rather than scratching...
