New 2k8 Server R2 is smoking fast

I don't know when this came out (recently?) but I've been playing with 2k8 datacenter R2 w hypervisor and after a few bios tweaks I've got 30 Virtuals running on it and it's not even scratching the surface. If you haven't played with it you should definitely give it a try. Or if you've been using it for awhile and have some tips post them up.

Fast comparing to what... 2008, 2008 with SP1, 2008 eith SP2, ESX? The hardware will play a bigger role than the OS host will.

does R2 support thin provisioning and memory overcommit? those were two sad points of 2008 plus the lack of clustered filesystem that made me pass.

one thing i noticed hyper-v will use idle cores to help a mostly idle box seem faster. likewise with disk i/o.

when you have 2-4 machines going and the rest idle they would appear much faster on hyper-v than esx but when you actually have 10-20 machines going this effect would go away.

I'm curious what good backup solutions are available for clustered storage volumes. Wasn't sure if DPM supported that yet.
