I have read in quite a few places that with recent drivers the 2900xt has been able to keep up with the 8800gtx, but I have been unable to find these newer benchmarks. Could you provide me with a few links? Thanks!

I have a 2900XT and I have not seen any discernable difference in performance between Cat 7.7-7.9. In fact, Cat 7.8 managed to lower performance.

As far as being able to keep up with an 8800GTX... maybe, in some situations. I am personally dissatisfied with my 2900XT performance at 1920x1200.

Tweaktown do a monthly Catalyst Driver bench- there are plenty of results there to check :)

Go buy a GTX then if you think it'll help you. I do not see drivers immediately giving you good performance in the resolution you are using. Nor do I believe that buying a GTX would solve it either. Newer games, especially using DX10 features and everything maxed just do not perform as fast as you want them to. Period. Even at 1280x1024 with my system, some of the games you're playing at 1920x1200 run below 40fps.

I can't criticize matt2. I know how frustrating it is when your system has a mysterious glitch or 2 in it. The problem is that both nvidia and ati have lots of glitches. They get better in general with each driver update, but the whole cycle is going to start all over again in Q1...

My games are fine @ 1920x1200 2xAA on my 2900XT...I have a GTX aswell to compare it with and it is usually only just below Its performance at the same settings (e.g. Stalker is around 8fps better on GTX).

yeah, I was thinking about buying a spare computer with an e6850 and overclocking it to 3.85 for comparison's sake...

WHAT??? are you trying to run some sort of sick-o mating game combo xfire/sli system? don't get me wrong, that would be pretty cool to see if you were. It would be especially interesting to see how it performed with different cards as the primary...

I'd love to run a sick-o mating game combo xfire/sli system tbh :p but that isn't the case. When I get some more time on my hands I will try to do some comparisons but I'd also have to figure out how to do Timedemos in games to test FPS over a given timeframe.

Nicely said. Not having the card, but by reading - seems drivers have improved the 2900xt performance, but not as much as hoped for by the masses.

Well, each time there is a new game running at 1920x1200 BEFORE they have any driver side tweaks and then bashing the card and the driver team publicly, is stupid. Like I said, even the GTX at 1920x1200 does NOT run the latest games at super good FPS except maybe DX9.
