I just picked up a new Asus 7v8x and 2700+ with samsung pc2700 and it keeps rebooting. I finally got XP installed by moving the CPU speed down to 1733. at 2167 the system will eventually blue screen or just reboot.
I'm on the latest bios rev.
Wondering what my settings should be or if that could even be the problem.?

CPU Speed choices are 1300,1733,2167 and manual
CPU freq Multiple wide range (manual says this would be grayed out unless the processor is unlocked. I can change this but I didn't "unlock" the proc.)
Memory freq range of choices. but using 333
cpu vcore (this was at 1.65 I moved it to 1.675 and the system seemed to stay up alittle longer. What should this be for the 2700+?

I'm not wanting to overclock or not much I'm just wanting a stable system?

Any help or leads would be great.
Also what should my CPU temp range be typically? I'm using a Volcano9 CPU fan

Have you tried using setup default settings. It's a 2.17GHz cpu so 2167 is the right choice. The memory should be 333mhz. Set the memory timings to by spd. Select auto for the cpu, and memory on the advanced screen. 40-45 would be a good temp at idle.

What's the brand and wattage of your power supply as this could also be causing your problem.

What he said. Should be using a high-quality name-brand (Antec, Enermax, Sparkle) 350W or higher PSU for that system.

A simple fix is, go into your BIOS. load optimized default, save and exit BIOS. Reboot.

If this time your computer is still unstable, something is wrong, otherwise not.

sounds a lot like a PSU problem
what is your combined voltage on the 3.3 and 5v lines
