when i start the computer it shows an unrecognizable cpu @ 600 mhz, not a 2600+ running at whatever it runs at...

just got the comp put together tonight (planning on oc'ing it) so haven't installed windows or anything, but it's 3:40 and i'm going to bed.

mainly, i'm not sure if this is a problem, or if this is just happening because it's a mobile chip (which is intended for a laptop) being used in a desktop. i'm running an abit nf7-s v2 and a 2600+.

any ideas/advice?

thanks in advance for your help

check your fsb and multiplier settings. your fsb should be set at 133 and your multiplier should be set at 16. also, check abit's site to see if there's a recent bios update for your board.

Odds are his CPU isn't going to run at those settings. Lots of desktop mobos don't have full support for mobile chips. For example, my Epox EP-8RDA3+ will only run my mobile 2600+ at 12.5 multiplier or less, depending on FSB. I can run the FSB at 200MHz or better.

Edit: my suggestion: start with your FSB at 133, then progressively increase your multiplier until it balks, then back off a half step and tweak your FSB to whatever you're happy with.
