and... given the Nehalem Mac Pro's aren't out, why would you think they wouldn't have mini-display ports as well (or a normal display port w/ an adapter, given mini-display port supposedly isn't exactly a standard?)

I'm betting Apple will put that connector on everything - iMacs, Mac Pros, Mac Minis - just another way to lock you into their system :)

none the less really cool

I prefer this over a dock. The magnetic connectors works wonders. Apple would have to re-engineer a port for docking. Which doesn't sound feasible for Apple. Plus the dock would be bulky and less maneuverable

That really is the question. I would like to know the answer as well since the price is reasonable for what you get, especially if you have an intel Mac.

Mini-Display Port to DVI are available from Apple for $29. If you want a dual link DVI, it's going to cost you a whopping $99 though. Fortunately DVI is electrically compatible with HDMI. There's also a Mini-Display Port to VGA too for $29. They only work with the Macbooks though.

Supposedly, it's going to be the successor to DVI and HDMI. There's a long list of major supporters besides Apple including ATI, nVidia, Intel, Asus, HP, and Dell. Just what we need, another AV connection that doesn't really improve on the old one, but does include more DRM and will force you to buy all new hardware or expensive adapters. Lovely.

^You're wrong, there aren't any mini-displayport to DVI adapters yet that will allow you to connect the new monitor to an older, DVI laptop. The cables you speak of allow mini-DP laptops connect to older DVI monitors
