Interested in the hatchback to replace my Mazda3, if they can keep the weight down and not make it a retarded crossover like they did with the 5 series.

It amazes me that companies like BMW have waited so long to jump on the hybrid bandwagon. SoCal is probably one of the largest markets for BMW cars and the Toyota Prius is king of the hybrids here. If BMW released an efficient yet fun hybrid they'd have a huge win IMO.

Why go with a 4-cyl turbo'd engine? I'd rather keep the current V6 engine and tweak it a little bit -- I hate the way 4 cylinder cars feel. They always have a point when they feel out of breath. :(

a) they don't use V-6 engines anyway
b)fuel economy

I assure you thats because they are typically not designed with much sporting intention in mind. My 4 cylinder pulls harder than most purpose built sports cars.

I'm really digging that 3-series. I suspect the M3 will adopt similar lines when it comes out in 2012 when the world ends--I guess the new BMW V6 will spark the world to implode.

I have a 4cyl turbo'd car and my bro has an Evo-X MR, both cars sound like they are running out of breath when you push them, lol.

My father's SRT-8 on the other hand... :) I guess my fathers car is really spoiling my ass.

I really hope BMW comes out with a "pure" model of the 1 series or 3 series that doesn't have all these heavy electronic "variable/nanny" systems and just has good steering, good inline-6 and top-notch suspension. All this computer stuff is just too much and is turning me off from BMW's a bit every iteration. Man I feel like I'm getting old.

There's no replacement for displacement. :D

However, that Ford Eco-Boost 3.5L V6 seems like it might violate that rule...

Less bloat more leaness but with the ever increasing health and safety stuff can they really do much?

People just want comfy and I guess the majority just want that.

Hope they bring more diesel engines over. All we got is the 335d...

Off topic, but I hope Volvo brings over its diesel engines as well. Their diesel engines are so fast and so good on fuel economy. Change the ECU to a RICA...damn!

That rule is never violated.

Eco-Boost 7.0L V8 > Eco-Boost 3.5L V6, and so on.

The Eco-Boost does not have a torque curve. "Torque mesa" is better, but still does not suggest the absurd degree of flat-ness.

Thats because your turbo and your brothers are still priced well beneath what a 335 (or whatever they choose to call it) would be. It's expensive to add complex turbo systems. The 335 replacement (TT 4 cylinder) will have sequential turbos, thus getting the best of both worlds, quick V8 like torque (small turbo) and powerful top end (big turbo). Cars built to a tighter budget get one, and usually a road car ends up with a small turbo, like yours and your brothers turbo'ed cars. Small turbo's make awesome torque right away but as soon as the rpm's come up they just heat the air way too much to continue making power. Most turbo cars I've played with taper boost off as rpm's rise to avoid overheating the air, bigger turbos continue to operate at full boost and continue making power right until redline.

Yeah what RGUN said. My 4 banger doesn't run out of breath, just gets stronger and stronger right to the redline. Mine isn't even riced up like his :)

it mentioned the sequential turbo 4 banger will produce as much HP as the 300hp twin-turbo i6 3.0, is that possible?

Crap, and here I thought I had avoided all riceness :(

From a single turbo no less.
