Hi guys,
I couldn't wait until C stepping came out so I got the P4 2.53 last week.

It's B- shrink stepping. The pack date was 8/28/02.
I have following set up

Thermaltake volcano7+
ASUS P4B266
2 X 256MB Saunsung PC2700 original CTL
Geforce3 TI200
AUdigy
Intel pro100S NIC.
Promise ULTRA100
IBM 40Gb
WEsterndigital 15GB(backup)
DVDROM
Yamaha CDRW

The best I can do now is 2.810 GHZ at 150 FSB @ 1.7V.
The CPU will boot at 3.0GHZ wiht 1.65V into windows but hangs. I tried up to 1.75V but no go.
Any speed up from 2.8 will cause reboot while running Prime95.
IS P4B266 able to handle 3 GHZ?
OR the CPU just cant' do 3 GHZ?

did you have bio turbo1 setting enabled?
try that...normal setting would have put the pic/agp out of spec...
also after you did that and still no go...are you using 3:4 mem ratio? if so try setting it back to 1:1...and time setting to BY SPD...and try again...
are you using AS3? how are the temperature?

Hi Superman CK,

Yes I do have turbo1 enabled.

The ram is running at 1/1
Also the temp is around 54C at prime95 torture burnin and 32-29C at idle.

I hope it's the motherboard. I was expecting 3GHZ.

you shoulda waited for the C0 steppings :(

lots of ppl getting suckered into thinking they are gonna get great overclocks on these high $ chips :disgust:

you paid 2x the price for an extra 100-200mhz :Q

i know thugsrook...
But I needed a computer... I coudln't wait until novemeber. I think that's when the C1 stepping should me available. Well... I'll use this and pass it off to someone and get C1 stepping then.
But still it boots at 3 GHZ @ 1.65V. I am hoping I can stabilize it some how.
I've heard the 3GHZ CPU will require new mobo. Maybe my P4b266 isn't up to 3GHZ?

Have you checked your voltages?
I know mine would drop like a rock with the P4B266.

I am using
Antec 350W. You think this is not enough? I do have zippy(sparkle) 400w that I can try.

what are you 12v 5v and 3.3 readings? and your vcore voltage...does it drop drastically when it is under load (prime95)?
idle and load

superman ck,

yes 12V and CPu voltage does drop. 12V to ~11.5 or lower, and vcore from 1.7v to 1.62v.

Is it the ps or the board?

cant always trust voltage readings these days....
11.5v sounds bad but may not actually be that low.
vcore is 100% handled by the board.

give that 400w a try and see if things improve ~ you may get that 3g yet ;)

me too...use the molex and square plug with the main power connector...it helps stablize the voltage on board...:)

Sounds like a power issue to me as well...To me it is the fact that it will even boot at 3ghz with 1.65v yet only be stable at 2.8ghz with 1.7v....Usually I have not seen that much variation from what will post and run stable....

Try thugs advice on the power connection and try the 400...

I am interested a bit since I have a 350watt antec now with my current rig belowe and may need to see if that PS may not be enough for my 2.53ghz when I upgrade....

I am definitely waitin until I start seeing the c stepping chip...no hurry here, since I figure I will likely only gain 250-350 over current system with a c stepping.

HI guys,

Here what happened yesterday.

I swapped to 400W ps. And then connected 4 pin as well. Then funny thing started to happen. I started to loose PCI cards at boot up. I couldn't even get into OS.
So I clear CMOS and disconnected the 4 pin to the board. Now PCI cards are all there.

I had to reinstall OS over. Funny thing is this. Even at default speed 2533(19X133) audigy install hangs. If do 1900(19x100) then all i well. 3GHZ still hangs in windows.
What's is wrong?

sulu...you can try unplugging all pci card...no sound and whatever you have...
start up with just hte video card...
see if you can overclock to your desire speed...
then add each pci card on...that way you can find what really happens with your pci cards problem...

did you try the antec on with all 3 plugs?
