New 19" CRT Monitor: Samsung or Viewsonic?

Hey all, my trusty CTX-VL950S finally crapped out on me this past week. With the financial situation I am in, I can only get a CRT monitor as a replacement and with the $150 in gift certificates I have to Best Buy, that is where the purchase will be made.

So, that basically narrows down my choice to these two monitors:

Samsung SyncMaster 955DF - ($179 AR) -
3 year warranty
.20mm Dot Pitch

Viewsonic UltraBrite A90f+ ($229) - 1 year warranty
1 year warranty
.21mm Dot Pitch

Any ideas??

I haven't used the viewsonic, but have had a 955df for over 3 years, great monitor

I'd go with the Samsung.. great price for a great monitor... I have a 900IFT from Samsung... .20dp as well... I love this thing

LG Electronics have some awesome monitor's for a good price too..

I personally think the 955DF is too curved. The outside glass is flat, but the inside tube is slightly curved.

I'd prefer the Viewsonic, but that is a significant price difference. Depends how tight you are

I have a G90f right now. Not sure what the differences are between the a90f and the G90f But I love this monitor. I like the flat screen. Less glare. And even when the sun hits it in the afternoon, it's not bad.

I got a 19inch KDS XtremeFlat for cheap at officedepot. $200 - $100 MIR = $100.


No complaints.

what res do u use it at? do u game at all?

i was also thinking of either getting the 955df or the A90+

This is deja vu.... I looked at both of these monitors a couple of years ago. I originally bought the 955DF, but there was something wrong with it out of the box. I think it was a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. When I took it back to BestBuy they didn't have any more of them so I got the A90F. Been using it for a couple of years. It's been a pretty good monitor, but then again, I think they both are. I'd say you can't go wrong with either of them.

Thanks Guys! Ended up purchasing the Viewsonic. Just looked like a better picture, and the "UltraBrite" mode is pretty nice

Did you ge tthe XF-Bi or XF-B ?? The B does 1280x1024 at 85hz but the Bi only does 76hz. When I ordered it, I told the Office Depot guys that I must get the B, not Bi. I waited two weeks, when it finally came in it was a XF-Bi. I just got a refund.
