new 16x burner is slower than 2x burner

used to have an old memorex 2x burner that has been replaced w/ a buslink 16x10x40. i use nero and my last burn took 32 minutes with nothing running other than aol instant messanger and no convos going on, and even w/o aol running it still takes that long anyway. my buffers were constantly below 25% and this is when i slowed it down to 12x. i did have burn proof activated. can anyone give me an idea of what i should do?

have you tried enabling DMA on the cd-rom?

in device manager, go into properties for the cd-rom and it's usually there

If sohcrates suggestion does not work, your cd burning software may be trying to cache everything to the hdd before burning. You may want to either turn this option off or defragment your hdd.
