Every desktop IB except the K series (only two models) has the HD2500 and not the HD4000.

Wow. Not a very compelling lineup, IMHO. All 4/4 core i5's? Do we need that many?

Except the 3470T. Nice of them to put an i5 label on an i3. Looks like we'll have the same clarity that the 1156 i5/i3 lineup had...

ie i3+turbo magically equals an i5 rating.

Wish they also had pricing listed.

They really need to release the IB i3-2100 successor. That should be an awesome SFF or gaming CPU for the masses.

Edit: The TDP on that should be amazing as well. Pentiums/Celerons on the low-end should be awesome too with even more power reduction and increased performance for a similar price.

Take a look at the Intel® Core™ i5-2390T. This is nothing new but you wont see many of them on the market. As a matter of fact the Intle Core i5-2390T is a tray only processor. I wouldn't be surprised this processor followed the same path.

Gotcha. OEM's always get the weird stuff!

I just wish they would differentiate better. i5 overwhelming means four actual cores in the desktop space, it would be nice to be able to *count* on that being true.

Not that AMD is a whole lot better in that regard, you can buy an Phenom 2 x4 840 and get a propus L3-less quad... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103921

Bring on the I3's. They should put a beating on bulldozer's 8 core processors in gaming

I hope you mean the IB equivalent of the SB i3-2105. With the HD4000 IGP. Not just one with the HD2500, which is slower than the i3-2105's HD3000.

No that's wrong. i7-3770S, i7-3770, i7-3770T and soon the i3-3225 all have the HD4000. Not only the two k-models.

Sure. On the desktop side, it doesn't matter to much. If you want to game, you need a halfway decent discrete GPU anyway.

Intel has been set up to have a very functional product lineup for some time. They always mess it up.

Six-core i7 was originally going to be i9.

Systematically assign branding as follows:

Celeron (1C/2T)
Pentium (2C/2T)
i3 (2C/4T)
i5 (4C/4T)
i7 (4C/8T)

Instead, we have Celerons that aren't differentiated from Pentiums in any meaningful way, and random overlap between the i3 and i5 lines. If you really wanted consistency, break the six-core CPUs into two lines 6C/6T and 6C/12T. The i7 3960X would be a lot more appealing if the 3930K lacked HT.

The dies with the HD2500 are different than the dies with the HD4000 for the Desktop CPUs ??

I wonder if the 2-core i5's will be harvested i7's or if they are actually dual-core chips?

I think they are different, actually. I don't remember where I read that, but 2500 is not just a 4000 with fused off parts IIRC.

It would make a lot of sense to harvest some bum CPUs with a few broken shaders.

Dualcore. Intel have sofar never reused a faulty quadcore as a dualcore in the desktop/mobile. And you can say they havent in the server space either. Tho they disabled 2 cores on a quad simply to push up frequency.

I don't purchase Intel other than their K series chips. I refuse to integrate systems with Intel chips that are not overclockable.

For this reason I use Intel personally and integrate the K series whenever I can. Otherwise, for the average person, I purchase AMD and clock them up.

I refuse to fall prey to there lower end un-clock-able chips.

I mean that's what got me involved in overclocking (in the first place).

It would, but it would also make even more sense to never waste the silicon. Intel seems to be much more effective at this than others.
