Usain Bolt ran the fastest any human has ever ran last night. He ran a 9.72 100m dash. That is absolutely insane! Why isn't this on every single sports channel right now? This is big! Does nobody care?

I saw that 100m dash... amazing how he almost lost though.
Although I don't really care about track & field :)...

Wrong. Usain is naturally fast. I would lay $100 on it. Same thing for Tyson Gay.

And how can you argue that is isn't the fastest any human has ever run?

Because you haven't been alive to observe and time every single human being doing a 100 dash, and people were more athletic hundreds of years ago, which means if more people were faster back then than there is now, there'd obviously was a faster runner than this guy.

Huh? In the history of mankind? Not possible. This century? Sure.

Considering that the 100m times (and all race times for that matter) are continually decreasing, it is likely that this is the fastest any human has ever run a 100m distance.

Unless somehow humans got a lot slower and then now in the 20th/21st century are getting faster again.

20th/21st century = technology = less walking/running = not running and hunting your own food = slower and less agile humans?!?!?!!?

I bet you can pick any random native american in the 17th or 18th century and he'd top any of these timings.

I'll take a 17th/18th century native american and time him and guarantee he'll get a better time.

I bet you they just didn't time the right people, only a chosen few who weren't the fastest on the planet. You'll never be able to find the fastest, really.

There's no way you can call this guy the fastest ever if you haven't timed every human being that's ever lived, and I guarantee there's someone faster ( not trying to be anal but its the truth ). He may be the fastest human that was FOUND and made to run in an event.

...wrong.

We are stronger and faster now than we ever have been. (Atleast, the professional athletes are, enhancements or not)

Yes, yes. We're stronger and faster typing on computers, watching tv, eating McDonalds, driving cars, and playing video games (pro athletes included), talking on cell phones, than people who had no technology whatsoever and had to run and hunt for their whole life.

Technology=flat surfaces=shoes=running as a living=faster and more agile humans.

Not saying it was the fastest 100m ever, but it's undoubtedly possible, though you seem adamant that it is not.

The truth is he isn't. There were just too many human beings untimed at the 100m to make a final decision.

I think you're forgetting that we don't need to run and hunt now because we have gyms to make us stronger. They didn't have those sorts of things back then. We are most certainly stronger now than we were 400+ years ago.

Ok. So if I take a Spartan and pit him against a common jock who goes to the gym, the jock will win because he hits the weight room daily! Hell, I'd say the same for a marine/soldier.

I REALLY want to see a runner that can do 10 m/s without months of rigorous training for the one purpose of getting the best time possible on a 100m run.

Some of these guys basically live at high altitudes for a while so that their body becomes more efficient with oxygen
